  1. I always enjoy these kinds of lists. My husband and I "upgraded" to smartphones less than a month ago after my flip phone died. He'd had the same phone for thirteen years and it was falling apart, but still functioning! Like you, we're not opposed to these things on a moral level or anything. It's just a matter of deciding where OUR money is best spent, not how everyone else thinks we should spend it. Our frugality and resistance to pressure allowed us to eliminate our credit card debt in February and I remind myself of that when I feel that pull to have the NEWEST FLASHIEST BEST! lol

    1. Thanks for sharing Jen! I like what you said that "you decide how YOUR money is best spent" – that is exactly how I feel. Is there a right and wrong way? It's all about the heart. Congratulations on getting rid of your credit card debt – seriously, that is a HUGE deal! Well done! Thanks again Jen!

  2. Im another why doesnt spend on the latest gadgets, biggest cable package, designer clothes, cars etc. We are a one wage family and my wage just covers the bills, with not much left. We are slowly renovating our house (OH is doing almost all the work himself as and wehen we gat any extra cash). I have found as I get older, I dont need or want the latest phone, computer etc (we dont have a laptop and both our computers are at least 4 years old). Im not a fashion victim and prefer to make most of my own beauty products. Next month we are going to a friends caravan for a few days holiday (our first holiday since 1997!). Do we feel like we are missing out on the best of life, we do not.
Its amazing how frugal you can be when you need to.

    1. Love it! I love DIYing, but can't always find the time to make what I want. But when you really think about the cost-effectiveness, it is SO worth it! That is awesome that you are going on a holiday for a few days – I can't express how important it is to get away. I have learned that over the years and that was some of the best marriage advice we were given. Have fun and do no feel guilty!

  3. Wow, for $20 a month, that is not bad at ALL! I think sometimes $20 is worth the sanity that you come out of the gym with :). Aren't convenience foods just ridiculously priced? I do not shred my own cheese, but that is a really good idea! Does it save money in the end? I think learning new skills in the process of DIYing, is one of my most favorite parts! Good point about movies too – that is SO true that you usually do only watch the movie once and then are done. Thanks for sharing 🙂

  4. I love your list! Here's mine:
We seldom eat out, and we eat absolutely no fast food. Since I traveled in my career and ate most of my meals out, eating on our back porch is truly a luxury.

Since the nearest movie theater is an 80 mile round trip, we get movies for a $1 from Red Box. We do not have Netflix.

We don't have a gym membership. We belong to a free exercise class hosted by our church in the town civic center. We also have some exercise equipment that we use occasionally.

We buy used cars and pay cash for them. The only debt we have is our mortgage.

When we entertain, it's a potluck and everyone pitches in.

We do have one splurge that just feeds my spirit. We get season tickets to the Alabama Symphony. AND, yes, we love Pandora!

    1. Thanks for sharing your list Mary Alice! I really enjoyed reading it! I appreciated reading the potluck idea – how easy it is, cost effective, and fun! And a splurge, everyone has that "thing" they are into and I don't think God gets wrapped up in those – it's how we are stewards with His money. Appreciating music, is something He also appreciated, so no judging here :). Thanks again Mary Alice!
