20 Days, 3 Ways, __ Bags: Office Desk/Drawers
Have you ever sat down to work, but you spend the first how many minutes, trying to organize your desk, so that you actually CAN start? Office desk and drawers can get out of hand so easily. Instead of spending that time trying to reorganize your desk and drawers, how about filling up some bags? Here are a few ideas on how to reduce, reuse, or recycle what you do not need on your desk and in your office drawers:
1. Start from scratch. Even though this isn’t an organization challenge, sometimes the best place to start is starting over.
2. Go through everything on your desk, in your drawers, and ask:
- Do I have a similar item that works just as well? If so, get rid of it
- Do you have multiples of items, such as 3 scissors, 100 paper clips, 2 staplers, and a bazillion pens? If so, you do NOT NEED all the excess. Extras only take up space – get rid of them.
3. While putting things back, make sure everything has a home. If an item doesn’t even belong ON the desk or in a drawer (like a book or sweater), but it back where it belongs.
4. The paper piles – oh we all know what those look like! If the information is stored electronically, get rid of it. If the paper is outdated, time to recycle it. Be mindful of what you keep.
5. Fill up those bags even more with unnecessary clutter on your desk, such as a paper weight and décor that just takes up room. Hang items on a wall if needed, but don’t let decorative items clog up your precious desk/working space. Being able to have a clear mind to work, can start with having a clear desk to work on.
These are just a few ideas to get you started on clearing out your office drawers and desk. It needs to become a habit, so keep it clear. As you start to be mindful of what you allow to rest on your desk and take up space in those drawers, you will not need to spend the first however many minutes, clearing off your desk, so you CAN work.
