20 Days, 3 Ways, __ Bags: Shoes
It takes one pair to get through a day.
Yet we all have WAY MORE than what we need.
SHOES.
Do you use a shoe rack? Or do you just throw your shoes in the closet in hopes that you can find a matching pair in the morning? No matter what your “system” is, shoes are something we all can probably stand to get rid of.
Here are a few ideas on how to fill up some more bags:
1. Toss any shoes that are beyond repair and are in despair.
2. Donate any that you haven’t worn in over a year.
3. Ask:
- Do I love them?
- Are they “me”?
- Are they practical?
- Do they pinch my toes? Do they cause blisters?
- Do they itch?
- Are they uncomfortable?
4. An idea I once heard was to put all LIKE shoes together (i.e. flip flops, tennis shoes, etc.). Take a pair or two (or 3) out of each category and donate them. This quickly downsizes the shoe collection!
Simple and practical ways to go through your shoe collection. We tend to collect shoes, in hopes that we will have ALL the “right” shoes to have to go with each outfit. The problem is, the outfit we wear with those specific shoes no longer fits, is out of style, or you are just plain sick of it. Unfortunately though, you still have the shoes to go with it.
Time to part with some of your kicks and time to kick them out the door!
I don't have a lot of shoes but I still have too many — I just don't use them all. my three boys, right there is my shoe problem. I keep seasonal shoes in a bin at the back of my coat storage so they are out of the way and we don't have problems about wearing flipflops in the winter.
That is exactly how I feel at times – I don't have a lot, but I still have more than I need! That's a great idea to store some shoes (like seasonal) somewhere else because the whole idea of "out of sight out of mind" really works! Thanks for sharing!
I have way over 60 pairs of shoes and I've donated a good chunk of them recently, due to the disaster in the Philippines, I think they might need shoes and clothing more than I do!
I struggle to find space to organise my stuff but my biggest barrier (because I've moved back home with my parents) is to get them to co operate and join in with the de cluttering!
I love your perspective! I think you are really getting to the heart of what it means to live with less – to realize that there are others (more than ourselves) who need what we have. To realize that we can impact other's life, with something as simple as our STUFF. Also, having a life change (such as moving back in with parents) can be so difficult because you are on the "road" to where you want to go, which sounds like wanting to declutter, where they might not have the same idea. But look at it this way: you are setting an example through action, showing them that it CAN be done, and in the process, hopefully influencing their lives as well. Stay strong 🙂 and thank you for your comment!
I bought a pair of nude heels last year, and they match with everything and make my legs look awesome. I don't think I'll need to buy or own any other kind of high heels. I highly recommend them!
Finding JUST the right thing is such a good feeling, isn't it? Like finding a great heel! I have to admit, if I wore heels, I would be quite a sight – I am 6'1", so this girl doesn't need much of a heel in life, but I have to say, I do appreciate those who can wear them :). Heels look like fun!
My problem is keeping up with the change of seasons and my kids growing feet! I am constantly tripping over shoes in our small entryway and our "shoe shelf" is overflowing! I need to be more purposeful about putting away the out of season shoes and getting rid of the ones that won't fit again next year.
Very good point Ang! I think putting away the "seasoned" shoes, like you said, is a GREAT idea, and every season, going through the shoes that you know won't fit them next year. Also, then choosing a designated area for shoes. When it starts to overflow, either move them to their closets or then you know it's time to get rid of some. Shoes definitely can be the item we most trip over :)!
I have an old trunk by my front door that had nothing in it. After organizing my shoes and my 18 month old daughters who somehow has more than me? We now have our summer shoes put away and bigger shoes for her. Makes more sense to keep them by the door instead of in her closet and forgetting she has them! 20 shoes have now beeb donated 🙂
