4 Reasons To Clean Out Your Purse
Picture this: you are at the store, ready to check out, but the lady in front of you is taking a little extra time. You peek over her shoulder to see what the delay is and you realize she has a purse the size of Texas, filled to the brim, as she starts to unload all of her belongings, attempting to find her wallet.
Maybe this scenario describes you?
We have all been there. Our blood pressure and body temperature start to rise as we dig through our purse, wondering if THIS time, our wallet is truly lost.
What if we didn’t pack our purses so full? What if every time we needed something from our purse, we knew where it would be (if it was in there), what pocket, and maybe even know EXACTLY what was in your purse.
Yes, it is nice having a packed purse for the bridal shower games that require you to have the most random items stored in your purse. Do you find it embarrassing when you actually win that game?
Here are a few tips to keep your purse under control:
1. Be persistent about cleaning it out. This may seem simple, but add it to your weekly tasks. This means taking EVERYTHING out and only putting back what is needed.
2. Contain as much as you can in compartments. Purses with pockets are nice because you can organize your items according to each pocket. If you do not have pockets, it may be helpful to have containers or “storage” items in order to store certain items. For example, I quickly sewed a fabric Kleenex holder so that all of my Kleenexes are together. Also, for mints or loose gum – keep in a plastic bag so that you know where all of your fresh-breath items are.
3. Keep the size purse that suits your needs, not your wants. It is easy to buy an over sized purse and fill it with things that you maybe use every few months or so. Or you use an item just because it is in there. If you do not need to carry a piece of luggage for your purse, then don’t do it. I personally carry a satchel type purse so that I can put my water bottle in there comfortably. Otherwise it is pretty empty.
4. Be mindful of what goes in it. It is so easy to just shove it in the purse – really, it is. You get a little piece of paper – in the purse it goes. Someone gives you their number – in the purse it goes. How about dealing with that piece of paper or phone number right away? This prevents purse clutter and unnecessary time spent shuffling papers out of your purse (we all know we have piles of papers at home that need some shuffling).
Purses are something that we use daily, yet can get out of hand. I do not want to be one of those ladies who’s purse it falling out all over the floor, while just trying to find my wallet. How about you?
