Home Tour – Living Room
This is a series I have been wanting to do for a long time.
Call me weird, but I love to see people’s homes because I see them as a direct reflection of who they are. That is my goal with our home. I wouldn’t call it anything special, but it sure is something special to us. We are incredibly thankful to live where we do in the home we do. We have enjoyed making this house our home and look forward to continuing to do so!
One thing I enjoy doing in making our house our home is doing this on a budget, meaning not spending every last penny to do so. I love finding deals. I enjoy using what we have to make do. I love reworking or doing something to make a difference in our home, instead of having to start from scratch. You’ll see what I mean as I go through our home.
I like SIMPLE. I have been trying to make simplicity a large part of our home environment. With a toddler things can be messy, but it doesn’t mean it can’t be simple. May not always look like it, but something I am working TOWARDS (not sure I’ll ever “arrive”…)
So, without further ado, here is the first edition of our home tour: the living room.
If you were sitting on our couch, you would be looking at the TV. Here are the details:
Our furniture set, which includes a couch, loveseat, two end tables, two lamps, and coffee table, we bought at Slumberland’s clearance center 4 years ago for $1500. At first that sounded like a lot, but then when we added up everything in the set, it didn’t seem to bad (it also included a large area rug that we no longer have).
We use the coffee table as our TV stand.
The 3 cube organizer, I received free through Closetmaid when I had my organizing website. It now holds my scrapbooks and in the top bin, we store our DVDs. On top of it, I framed the old hymn Amazing Grace. That song will always have much meaning in our lives!
To the left of the TV, I have a large basket (bought with a gift card), that holds our blankets.
On the end table with the lamp on it, I often keep Mazy’s library books there for easy access and below store the rest of my scrapbooks.
The TV we got on a steal of a deal. Our DVD player – not sure where it came from, and we also have an Apple TV. I HIGHLY recommend getting an Apple TV if you do not have cable! It’s an easy way to get apps without having to pay for a cable subscription, like the PBS app, which we use daily!
Below our TV stand, there is a puzzle ball, two pairs of Dutch shoes, and a small sign that Dan’s parents bought us while I was in the hospital that says “with faith, all things are possible.”
On the right wall, I have a clock that I bought with another gift card from Hobby Lobby for half off.
The rug was here when we moved in (underneath the rug is unfinished wood).
If you are standing by the TV, this is your view. To the left is the entrance to our front room (more on that in another post) and to the right is an archway to our kitchen!
The chair to the right is my grandpa’s old leather chair.
Dan’s old stool stands in between the couch and chair currently serves as an end table.
I have a little basket to the right of the chair to hold magazines and notebooks.
On either side of the windows are two flower vases on a block of wood that I bought for half off at Hobby Lobby (can you tell I like that store?)
To the left stands a heater – not sure what I’d do without it in the winter months! The windows are original to the home and are a bit drafty, but Dan did some work on them this winter and now it doesn’t get near as cold in there!
On the end table we keep our remotes, coasters, internet box, and below sits our printer. That end table tends to be a catch-all at times, but it’s the perfect size because it doesn’t let me pile up too much!
So what have we done in this room?
Painted.
The wall by the couch used to be a darker red and the rest of the walls and ceiling were like a golden yellow. There was nothing wrong with the walls and were painted beautifully, but we just wanted to brighten it up a bit. So, we painted the ceiling white, repainted the trim both by the ceiling and the baseboards, and painted the walls Wedgewood Gray – Benjamin Moore – HC-146 (in case you were wondering)! As you can see, by the archway, I tried numerous colors and I would choose this color all over again! Love it!
