Containers
I have heard it said that you should view your home as a container. If it’s full, stop trying to pack more into it. If there are things you don’t want in it, take them out. Have you ever felt that way? Do you feel like your home is bursting out the cover of the container? Or that there are things in your home that you want to take out because it’s overflowing with things you don’t need?
Let me ask you this. Have you ever viewed you mind as a container? Do you ever think about what you allow in it? How full it is? What have you let seep in?
Ever since I went to a conference in September that was based off of the book “Lies Women Believe,” I have tried to pay more attention to what I allow into my mind and deal with the thoughts that are already in there. And I found that there are many lies that I believe. I couldn’t sit here and make a huge list of them right now, but when a situation comes up, what do I believe about it? Who do I believe God to be? Who do I see myself as? What truths do I fall back on? I don’t know I believe a lie until it is smack dab in front of me.
2 Corinthians 10:5 says, “We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ.”
Do I take EVERY thought captive, and hold it up to the light of the Bible? Does it reflect what the Bible says? Is it true? Is it filled with God’s character? That’s where I have to question what it’s in my “brain container.”
Ideas and worldviews creep in so easily – think commercials. Ads. Radio. Facebook. Instagram. News. Books. Even relationships. What influences our thinking on a daily basis? Do these things change how we view God? Ourselves? Others around us? And when they do influence us, are those influences and thoughts true?
Think about your mind as a container. What’s inside? Things that rot? Or things that bring fruit? Let me go back to my first example – our homes. What in your home do you use-less? Then let me take it one step further – what do you allow in your body? Do you ever view your body as a container?
