Today: MARVEL
Marvel – definition: one that evokes surprise, admiration, or wonder. To become filled with wonder or astonishment.
Do you ever just stand and marvel at something?
I know I do! Today I was talking with a customer at the store and she noticed my open heart surgery scar. She was not timid to ask about it, only because she had one herself. That gave me a chance to hear her story – what God brought her through in her life. I thought about saying a tidbit or two about my story because she asked a question, but I decided at the moment to be vague, only because I found myself marveling at what God had done in her life. She had a hole in her heart back in 1969 and apparently it was a big surgery back then because it made the paper. Interesting I thought! All I could do was stand there in awe of what God has done in her life (and in mine). How far techonology has come! I absolutely LOVE to hear other’s stories because I know I tend to do the exact same thing I did with this woman today – marvel.
Spring offers a time to marvel too. Dan and I always wonder what is going to pop up in our front yard flower-wise; every year it seems to have a different twist and look to it. But we love it! We didn’t realize where all our tulips came from and surely we still don’t have a clue -but that is the beauty of God I think. God causes things to grow – we just only plant the seeds (if that is what we even did :)). Look around you this week. Marvel at spring and what God is doing to HIS earth. Sometimes we give ourselves a pat on the back when something looks nice, but really, it’s all God. HE is the one who sends the rain. HE is the one who makes it grow.
Another thing that marvels me is the response of the world to Prince William and Kate getting married. I had to chuckle because I saw some who had these early morning parties where they got all dressed up like princesses (or wore their wedding gowns), had “royal” food and decorations, and watched the wedding. Do I think that is wrong – by all means NO! Whatever it takes to have a good time, that is different for everybody. But it really did amaze me to see how “all out” people went. BUT…
Why did the world get so excited to see this couple get married? Couples get married EVERYDAY! I’m sure there are many reasons why, but the one that sticks in my head is because people like to marvel over watching two love birds getting married, who just so happen to be a prince and princess – doesn’t happen everyday I suppose. Or does it? Aren’t we ALL prince and princesses in God’s eyes? I have been blessed to have gotten married (and still am :)), and I must admit, there is this feeling of being like a princess on your wedding day! When you walk down that aisle, you feel like a million dollars – but the best part? Seeing the man in front of you, looking into your eyes, and realizing you are going to be spending the rest of your life together. So, how are we any different than Prince William and Princess Kate? REALLY? Aren’t they just two people who fell in love, got married, and now are living their life together? Why do we marvel at THEIR love? Why don’t we marvel at the love in our OWN marriages? Because we too, have what they have! And they are like just like everyone else – their marriage will take work – that is a GUARANTEE!
While the world marvels at love, let us not forget the blessings we ourselves have been given – and only wishing we had what they have. We DO have what they have!
So…Marvel at something TODAY.
