Around The Home

In the Midwest, winter=staying home more often, doesn’t it? Do you find that in your life as well? But in a way, it’s maybe not all half bad! It is so easy to rush through life, going from this to that, leaving us to wonder where the time has gone? My goal in parenting is…
Well, hello summer, AGAIN, here in Michigan! Never thought we’d see the 70s in November, but hey, why not? And why not decorate for Christmas while we are at it? It’s a year of weirdness, so when Mazy asked if we could decorate on November 2, I had really no reason or excuse to say…
Getting back into the swing of things this week! Mazy is starting to like tummy time a bit more…well, that means she lasts maybe 2 minutes instead of 1 (okay, maybe she can last 4-5 minutes) but that is Mazy! She is getting VERY good at holding her head up, and she has rolled twice…
I can tell that things have slowed down a bit for us this week, since I don’t have many action-filled pictures, but it has been a good week at home. Slowly I am regaining strength and each week I am seeing progress. At times I feel exhausted, but Mazy has been good for me. She…
Last year’s Halloween was sure one for the books, but this year was a different story! This year we were able to start some traditions of our own, since this is really the “first” Halloween spent back in Michigan. What a FUN day it was. Mazy was looking so forward to dressing up in her…
As the weeks move on by, we are realizing quickly that our time in Minnesota is coming to an end and our new life in Michigan will be beginning. Both book ends, in the opposite way. The closing of one chapter, but the opening of another. I feel I have my emotions back under control,…

Yes, my sweet girl tends to feel the same way when her daddy is out of town too. She gets very fussy and is constantly looking out for him to come home. I got her a big photo of the two of them together and put it on the floor up against the wall so she could look at it whenever she wanted. The photo seemed to help. We also recorded video of daddy reading books etc, that made her very confused and even more sad. She couldn't understand why daddy was in front of her talking etc but not really here. And he was so small and on the screen, it weirded her out. But just the photo was good. And also doing fun stuff. But they also rough house a bit and she misses that too. Mama is too gentle with her girl. So I try to play similar games as daddy does.
Oh and she also refuses to wear her bib too. I gave up on the bibs since she just pulls them all off. But if we have no time to change a dirty outfit and I need her clean, I use a disposable bib since they have tabs that really stick together — even those she pulls them apart. One thing she likes, which Mazy may find enjoyable, is learning new skills. Like today we got Popsicle sticks and a piece of carboard, I punched holes with the scissors in the back and stuck the sticks in the holes. She pulled them all out and I got her hand and was teaching her how to put them in and out of the holes. Simple but fun… I look up on the internet little things to try. I look up toddler sensory activities, or sensory learning. We got the macaroni and poured into a big bowl and she reached in etc. I keep the paci in her mouth so she doesn't eat it. Play dough does not work, she keeps eating it.
