How was this past week, the last week of June already? I try to stay away from to-do lists in the summer because we just want to enjoy hanging out by the pool with family and friends. And so far, so good. Here’s what the past week has looked like for us:
Speaking of to-do lists, Mazy came to me and said she made a list of things to remember to bring to grandma’s house (a girl after my own heart): her backpack, a stuffie, and love. Not sure where love came from, but she can spell that word on her own, so my guess is that’s why it ended up on the list. But hey, learning moment for me too – do I always take “love” with me, wherever I go?
Maggie’s face pretty much sums up her life as a dog! In all reality though, Maggie is lost with Mazy and Mazy is lost without Maggie!
This sweet girl accomplished 2 MAJOR goals in her life: swimming without a life jacket and jumping off the diving board without a life jacket (then swimming)! She was ECSTATIC. And I’ll be honest, we were too.
Since we moved back to Michigan, I have always wanted to take Mazy to the zoo. Didn’t matter which one, but the past few summers, I have not felt the greatest. And the thought of walking around a zoo in the heat with heart failure, I knew, was not a good idea. Well, this summer is a bit different and I was FINALLY able to have a mommy/daughter date at John Ball Zoo! I was probably just as excited as Mazy to go because time spent with her, doing something she loves, fills this mama’s heart!
Well hello, Mr. Bear!
So we walked by this exhibit and I didn’t have a clue what they were. Mazy looks at me and says, “Mom, it is a tamarin”. A what? I honestly had never heard of them before and she acts like it was old news. Thank you Wild Kratts! I apparently missed this animal in my education!

A friend told me about some garage sales near us, so on the way home from the zoo, we hit up a few. Our bargain of the day – a pottery wheel that even came with clay, for 25 CENTS!! Mazy has been wanting us to dig a hole in our yard so we could find clay (which if we did, there would be none b/c of the sandy area where we are), to make pots. Well, this surely mended the frustration she had with me about not being able to find clay in our yard! And for a quarter? You bet! She’s already made me a vase and a little bowl for her doll. Though I’m told I need to take a pottery class because I’m not as good as daddy is :).
