Bathroom Refresh and Renew
This is a sponsored post brought to you by Wayfair. The opinions are completely my own based on my experience.
When I think about our home, one of the places I step into frequently is our bathroom. We only have one full bath in our home and so it is used frequently. It is one of the first places anyone goes in the morning and therefore, I think it’s important for it to be a place that is refreshing and peaceful. But how in the world do you make a bathroom “refreshing” to step into? Thanks to Wayfair, I was able to do some “refreshing” and make areas feel like new again. Here’s how:
Our towels were getting old. I had tried all of the “tried and true” methods of getting rid of the musty smell, but no matter how hard I tried, it just hasn’t helped much. My first refresh idea was to get new towels. I found this adorable Shoreham 6-Piece 100% Cotton Set in dark gray to match our bathroom rug and walls that are painted in Sea Salt (light blue/green). Each set came with 2 towels, 2 hand towels, and 2 washcloths. The bath towels match perfectly! I also like that they have a little design on them, instead of just a basic towel. Definitely adds some dimension to the area that is basically just covered with drying towels on a daily basis!
Here’s the set I got:
Then I decided it was time to add something more elegant to our countertop. I do not like it when my bathroom counter is cluttered, so I wanted something subtle, like a faux plant. I found this mini faux lavender bush and it is the perfect size for that little corner! There is a raised diamond pattern on the pot that has a hint of gray, that ties the other colors in our bathroom together. And not to mention, the purple from the lavender adds just another little spice of color.
Love the look of this:
Then it was time to replace the shower caddy in our bathtub/shower area. Our last caddy was chrome, but rusted terribly, so it was time. I found a similar one on Wayfair that was rust-resistant, had 2 shelves, a soap bar holder, 4 razor holders, and two hooks. Not only that, each shelf has two openings to hold shampoo or conditioner upside down when they are almost gone. I wasn’t sure the hooks would actually hold our washcloths well, but they do! Here it is, the Kenney Rust-Resistant Heavy Duty 3-Tier Large Hanging Shower Caddy With Suction Cups And Four Razor Holders:
It even came with suction cups so that the caddy doesn’t rub against our shower wall:
Something I didn’t really consider replacing until I started thinking about a bathroom refresh/renew, was our shower curtain rod. As you can see, it was getting rusty and the cream part probably used to be rubber, but has since dried out.
I wanted to replace it with an adjustable curved rod to make the shower area feel bigger. This 72″ Adjustable Curved Fixed Shower Rod was perfect. So why a curved rod? When we’ve had to stay at the University of Michigan’s hospital, the Med Inn, the showers had a curved rod. I always thought, “I’d LOVE to have that someday” and this would be a great way to make it feel more relaxing. Then my elbows wouldn’t be vying for space in the shower either. Plus, I loved the mount, versus just a plain pole.
Now I just need to replace the old curtain hangers that are also rusting!
And here’s where things go interesting. Since we moved in, I’ve wanted to replace the Bathroom Vanity Light with something that had a more “farmhouse” look. Here’s what we currently have. Not that it’s bad, but I was maybe going for a different look.
I found this adorable Brummett 3-Light Dimmable Vanity Light in black and thought PERFECT! I had my husband take down the old and replace it with the new. As you can see, this bathroom has had a few makeovers in the past, due to the several colors of paint:
Although, what I failed to think of was how DARK our bathroom would be, with a 3 black, bell-shaped, shades. After my husband installed it, before I could even say something, he said, “Wow, it is DARK”. We knew within minutes that there was no way we could keep it like this. So, what to do?
Even though my goal was to replace that light, my husband thought of the grand idea to replace the light above our kitchen sink, with this new vanity light and put our old light back up in the bathroom. And I must say, it was a GENIUS idea and we LOVE the change! Here’s how it turned out:
We had a candle-looking light hanging before, where this makes the window look so much bigger. With the light dimmable too, it really sets the tone in the room at night as well.
Really, a simple change, but one we’ve fallen in love with.
So our bathroom refresh/renew didn’t quite go as planned, but thanks to Wayfair, we were able to use their versatile items in other areas of our home as well! One day we would still like to replace the light in the bathroom, but in the meantime, we will enjoy the new look of the shower with the new rod and caddy, the faux plant, and new towels! Even just the simplest of changes can completely change the feel and look of a room! A room as simple as a bathroom.
