What a week! After 2 1/2 months, Mazy has finally been cleared of an ear infection and is no longer on any antibiotics. This sweet girl has sure been a tough cookie, especially since her first year molars are coming in as well!
We were referred to an ENT for Mazy’s ears and at that appointment, we learned that she needed tubes. To be honest, we knew that was coming because 2 1/2 months with an ear infection is not normal. She passed her hearing test, but the pressure she has on her eardrums was incredible the doctor said. She was surprised that she could even hear us. Let me tell you, this explains SO MUCH. Mazy has been fussier and we knew with the infection that of course that makes a difference. But even after she was cleared of it, she was still pretty fussy and waking up a lot at night. Now knowing the amount of pressure she has in her ears, explains it all – think of flying on a plane and trying to get your ears to pop – that’s what she felt for the past few months. She would just sit and cry with her finger in her ear or she would put her ear up against her shoulder. She was clearly in pain and it was hard because we couldn’t do much about it until we saw an ENT.
Needless to say, Mazy is having surgery to put tubes in tomorrow. Countless people (including the doctor and nurse) said we are going to have a different child. Not that we are banking on it, but yes, I think we will too. Not that we wish for our daughter to have surgery at all, but to know that this is going to be welcomed relief for us all, makes it something we are looking forward to. Mazy can’t tell us, except through tears that she hurts. Sometimes she will sleep through the night, but other nights she will be up for 2-3 hours, wide awake, with her finger in her ear. Plus, letting her cry it out just causes more pain, so again, Tuesday will be so good for our sweet Mazy! Little does she know! It is such a common surgery and we have heard stories how it helps tremendously, so we are just thankful that we live in a country that offers this type of care and relief.
So this past week has been crazy with appointments and phone calls to try and get this all set up. We are all set for tomorrow and after tomorrow, hopefully Mazy will be feeling MUCH better.
We just wonder how long she has had this pressure. Is that why she was so fussy as a baby? She did not pass her hearing test as a newborn, but did a few weeks later. Even though she didn’t start getting infections until a little later, we wonder how long this pressure has been bothering her? Who knows. As Dan said, you have to go through the steps first before getting to the point of tubes, and he is right. It’s just hard to see your child in pain. Now I see just a glimpse of what my parents had to go through with me.
Anyways, here’s what else that has been going on in our life:
Mazy loves digging through our cupboards. Well, at one point I apparently stepped out of the room to do something and I come back to a floor full of cheerios. Mazy’s face was like “What? I’m just eating my cheerios!” Priceless.
Waiting to see the ENT doctor – she screamed through most of the appointment, but I suppose that proved that she needed some ear relief!
We’ve had some crazy weather in Minnesota lately – hail one day
And storms the next
After getting groceries, Mazy took the container of strawberries out and decided she was hungry.
I took off her dress and let her eat away at them – I think she ate 2 1/2 strawberries in that sitting. As you can see – she loves her strawberries!
Yes, our daughter has CRAZY hair sometimes!
Love our little peanut after a bath!
One of my favorite pictures of all-time. Those eyes and Dan’s love for his daughter. My heart is so full.
