Growing up I never really thought I would move out of Borculo because so much of who I am today is because of where I grew up. Little did I know that God would lead me to another location, another town. Since moving to St. Joseph, I have really learned so much about not taking…

  • The Only True Cause

It all started with wanting to reminisce for a minute… One evening while Dan was gone, I decided to throw it back to the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, when the U.S. Gymnastics team took gold. I’ll fully admit, my sister and I were OBSESSED with this. To the point where we could (and still can) quote…

  • Almost Right Isn’t Enough

Discernment is not knowing the difference between right and wrong. It is knowing the difference between right and almost right.” — Charles Spurgeon Right and ALMOST right. I have heard this quote several times over the past few years and each time, I ponder what I believe to be THE TRUTH. Not that I question WHO is the truth, but the voices of the world are…

  • Hold On Just a Second

It’s the phrase I say oh, too many times to count. You often hear of parents talking about how much patience it takes to parent. The sleep-less nights, the tantrums, the repeating of commands. I am sure you can think of one thing that takes a bit of patience. But have you ever thought about…

  1. Wonderful advice! I think I inherited my mother's "obligated guilt" gene, and it has taken me 48 years to figure this out. I find that when I say yes and spread myself too thin out of a sense of obligation, I end up stressed out and resentful of the person who asked for my help (certainly NOT healthy for relationships), but when I say yes because the job is in keeping with my core values and priorities, I end up feeling fulfilled, even if I've had to make some sacrifices with my time and energy. It's all about using your gifts and talents to make the world a more meaningful place according to your own definition rather than someone else's.

    1. Valerie, you couldn't be more right, about being resentful towards the person who asked for the help. IT is so easy to create this barrier, that isn't supposed to be there, but because of my own inability to say no, it's there. That feeling of fulfilled is amazing and worth every bit of energy. We all have choices to make and it's whether or not we decide to truly make them, that we will see amazing results. Thanks for sharing Valerie!
