How and Where To Sell Your Stuff Online
As you declutter your home, you may find some items that are worth something. The next question is…
WHAT TO DO WITH THEM?
That is a good question. It all depends on how much you want to make and how aggressive you are in wanting to sell the item. Is it worth something? If you are wondering, just searching the item on e-bay, amazon, craigslist, etc., you can get an idea of what it might cost. Listed below are a few ideas that might get your mind inspired to sell some of the items that have been sitting in your basement or closets for all too long!
E-bay: Do you have a unique item, collectible, or item that you think may be worth something? Do you have an item that takes someone special to appreciate? If you are looking to see what an item would sell for, how valuable it is, check E-bay’s “compared listings” to see what a similar item has sold for. I would say E-Bay is probably the best source to sell something unique – may not be for the price you want, but it will sell.
Craigslist: local, free, and easy. If you are looking to get rid of a large item, such as a couch for example, Craigslist is the way to go. It is free to sign up and you don’t have to pay “shipping” because typically the buyer is responsible for pickup. Take a picture and if needed, meet at a neutral location to make it a “safer” exchange. Personally, we have sold a boat on Craigslist and wouldn’t have done it any other way!
Facebook: Easy to sell something within your “friends” network. If you know your friends or social network would appreciate the item you are selling, try selling the item via your status with a picture! I also recommend starting a town-wide facebook page, where citizens can sell personal items. No need to drive far to pick up the item since it is a town-wide site! For example, when we moved to a new town, I started “(town) Online Garage Sale.” Living in a small town, it was a great option to sell items without having to drive far! If your town does not have one, start one today!
Etsy: If you have anything handmade, try to sell it on Etsy. Handmade is becoming more and more popular – don’t sell yourself short by telling yourself it’s not worth anything. Look through the 1,000s of pages of items to see what your item might sell for.
Amazon: This website is one of the hottest places to buy an item. Therefore, it can be one of the hottest places to sell an item. Amazon doesn’t charge a fee until you sell something. Books are one of the main items that I feel Amazon sells. If you are looking for a good deal, check out this website!
Donate: If you are looking to get of your items quick, take a picture of them, write down each item, and go on Goodwill’s website to see what you can claim the item to be worth, on your taxes.
Garage Sale: Want to make some quick money without the hassle of the internet? Set up a garage sale, coerce a few friends to help you out, and price your items to sell. Hopefully, you will score a few extra dollars into your wallet! Still have items left? Write them down, take a picture, donate them, and claim them on your taxes.
