Today I want to talk about why I chose the Lumebox over other RLT devices. If you Google search red light therapy devices, you’re going to be overwhelmed by all of the different options! You can get them directly from companies, or even from Amazon and Temu. So why choose the Lumebox?

Here are a few things to consider and why they matter:

IRRADIANCE

Irradiance is how much energy is delivered through the red light, on the specific area you are targeting. Why does this matter? A higher irradiance delivers better results in less time. The LUMEBOX delivers 125 mW/cm2 for red light therapy and 140 mW/cm2 for near infrared therapy. You for sure want an irradiance greater than 120, and the LUMEBOX is proven to have an 80% greater NIR irradiance than some leading brands and 58% more red light radiance. You want the red light to penetrate, otherwise it is not worth your time!

WAVELENGTH

For red light therapy, it uses red and near-infrared (NIR) light to reduce pain, inflammation, and promote healing and circulation. This narrow spectrum of light is most effective at 600-900 nanometers (nm). Many offer this level of wavelength, but may not offer the NIR, which can penetrate deeper, for muscles, joints, etc. The LUMEBOX device delivers LED red light at 660 nm and NIR at 850nm, which is right in the realm of where it should be for BEST results. Why does this matter? If the wavelength is below 630nm, it might not be effective. If it doesn’t have a NIR rate of 850nm, it might not be effective if you’re looking for a deep tissue penetration.

SAFETY AND CERTIFICATIONS

We live in a “safety” oriented culture, to the point where playground equipment now has age limits. Long gone are the wooden teeter totters! When it comes to RLT though, safety is something you want to not only consider, but take serious note of. It is important to look for a device that is FDA approved and/or is independently tested. You want to be able to find clinical data on the use of it because if you use one that has no safety precautions, you may cause more harm than good. Certifications also help label whether the device is authentic or not. Why does this matter? When it comes to RLT, you want to be safe. EMF

If you are anything like me, when you hear “EMF”, it may be a term you’ve never heard of. Well, when it comes to RLT, this is something to consider. EMF stands for electromagnetic fields, which can heat the body and/or effect nerve stimulation. Basically EMFs happen wherever there is electricity being used, like in cell phones, lights, computers, appliances, power lines, etc. So basically any electrical device delivers EMF to some degree. There’s some controversy on what exposure to high EMFs can do to the body, like some say high levels can cause cancer, but there isn’t any evidence of that. But I’m under the mindset of better safe than sorry. For instance, a vacuum cleaner emits a level of 40, while the Lumebox emits a level of 2.5, which is something they pride themselves on. Why does this matter? I figure a low EMF is worth it for now as more research comes out – why risk it?

EASE

RLT devices come in all shapes and sizes. Some are portable, some for the full body. Some are face masks to promote facial skin health. So why choose the Lumebox? It is EXTREMELY portable (I’ll take it in the car with me and use it while waiting for my daughter in the pick up line), and is about the length of my hand. BUT, it also has about 25% more coverage than other portable devices on the market! It also has a 6 minute and 12 minute timer, which is handy if you’re looking for just a quick RLT session. I usually do the full 12, for best results, but the timer feature also ensures you don’t burn your skin and to prevent the device from overheating. Not to mention, it also has a handle which you can use to prop up the device on a table, chair, or couch, but also to hold for specifically targeted areas. With its long battery life, you can get MULTIPLE uses out of each charge. Why does this matter? I wanted something that was EASY to use. COST

It may seem like a lot of money upfront, but when you start to do research on FDA approved, both red light and NIR options, portable, safety and certified devices, it actually is very reasonably priced and is one of the cheaper options out there. You could spend thousands if you wanted to! I wouldn’t share this if it wasn’t something I use myself.

When it comes to RLT, when you start to do the research, you will find that it is used for so many reasons. It doesn’t offer UV rays, but uses red light to penetrate deep to encourage cell growth and recovery. With some offices starting to use RLT, it can be a costly visit, so having a portable, hand-held device at home, that you know is safe, tested, and efficient, may just be what you need. Not to mention the time it will save you from going to the doctor’s office!

Here’s how I use mine: I use both the NIR and Red Light when I turn it on, I focus it in on an area, let it go for 12 minutes, and then I’m done. I sometimes move on to another area of my body if I’ve got a lot going on :). For example, if I’m using it for my feet, I’ll put my feet directly on it, for the full 12 minutes, shifting them around, here and there. For the back of my head (for hair growth, neck pain, or headaches), I’ll put a pillow on top of our couch cushion, rest the device against the pillow, sit down on the couch, and allow the light to penetrate onto the back of my head, about 2-3 inches away, for 12 minutes.

These are just some examples of the way I’ve used the Lumebox. If you have a RLT device, where and how do you use yours? Hands down, I would get the Lumebox again. It has been life-changing for me physically after my bone marrow transplant and I’m so thankful for my friend who introduced it to me!
