A Home For Everything
After moving a year and a half ago, and having {most} of our boxes unpacked, I wondered if we could find a place for everything. Being in a new home, with different storage spaces and places, I was not sure how this would go. Believe it or not, there are not many closets, outside of the bedrooms and bathroom; just a coat closet in the front of the house. Our house is almost double what we came from, but believe it or not, I have had a harder time finding a place for everything. Pretty sad, right?
This very issue, has reminded me of a very valuable lesson.
Clutter isn’t caused by the lack of storage space, but by the amount of stuff you have.
The rule that will fix ALL problems? EVERY ITEM MUST HAVE A HOME. You must find a place for EVERYTHING.
This may seem like an easy task to some, especially if you have been working on decluttering your life for quite some time, but how easy is it to come across something and think “where do I put this?” Take a look around your home. Does EVERYTHING have a permanent home?
That is the issue I am running into right now. I am realizing there are just things we no longer need and I could stand to get rid of that clutter. By doing so, that will help me find a home for the things that deserve a place in our home. My goal with this home, like our other homes too, is to not have clutter lying around. To not hold onto things that do not have a permanent home. If I can’t find a place for them, then that means something has to go – whether it be that item or something else.
Making a house a home is a work in progress, isn’t it? That is why I LOVE it. I find myself switching things around, moving things over, pushing some things to the back while bringing others forward. Even after all the purging, I still find myself filling boxes of things we no longer need, such as home décor items. With a different paint scheme in our new-to-us house, many of our home décor items no longer match or fit in our new home, which means more clearing out!
And oh it feels SO good!
