Bedroom Clutter – Clearing Your Mind (And Dressers) For A Better Sleep
What type of atmosphere do you to create in your bedroom? The answer to this questions determines how your bedroom is organized.
Do you sleep well at night? Have you ever thought that maybe it is because of the clutter in your bedroom or house? Not that I am a professional counselor (though I do have a degree in social work), but I believe that the clutter in your house can be a cause for lack of sleep. Filled houses can mean filled minds, which can lead to lack of sleep.
A great place to start in organizing your bedroom is the dreaded closet or dressers
Now is the time to see if you wear everything you have! Here are some things to think about:
- If you haven’t worn it at least once in the last year, get rid of it! I like the idea of having all of your hangers hung one way and as you wear an outfit, turn the hanger the other way. That way by the end of the year, you will know what you wore – whatever you didn’t, donate it.
- If you are holding on to some clothes for when you lose weight, don’t stress yourself over it – get rid of those clothes. They are doing no good, but causing you more stress.
- Are there some things you wear only because you see it?
- While going through your clothes, see if it has a stain, missing a button, ripped, or whatever. Trash it, donate it, or fix it. Don’t let it just sit there.
- If all of your clothes don’t fit in your closet or dresser, then it’s time to get rid of some clothes. For example, if you buy something new, get rid of something – this prevents you from accumulating clothes, which will help you minimalize what you own and keep your closets clutter free.
- Do you own any “one-outfit” shoes? How often do you wear that outfit? Is it really worth keeping the shoes? If you have another pair to wear with that outfit, get rid of the “one-outfit” shoes. Not worth the space they take up.
Clothes just take up so much space and they are costly (or can be). I think clothes are something that we tend to hang out to too long, waiting for the right opportunity to wear it (and quite frankly, that opportunity rarely comes along). If you look at a piece of clothing and think “I MIGHT wear this…” really, that means you won’t – so just get rid of it. You probably won’t miss it. After all of the clothes I have cleared out, I think there was ONE thing I thought about months later, wondering if I got rid of it. It was worth donating all those items because I sure don’t miss them and my closet doesn’t miss them either!
I think when your closets are overflowing or your dressers barely shut, it is time to take the time to organize. Clearing clutter clears the mind.
You will be thankful in the end!
