Day 1: Cleaning Products
What: Cleaning Supplies
Why: How many types of all-purpose cleaner does one need? When I looked at all of the “cleaners” I had, I knew I had to clean out our cleaners (how pathetic, right?)
How: Where to start?
For me personally, these are the essentials:
- All-purpose cleaner
- Window cleaner
- Toilet bowl cleaner
- Ajax-type cleaner
- Scrubbers
- Rags/Dust rags
Those items should not take up 2 storage containers, like they did for me. I wanted to fit EVERYTHING into one pail so that I could carry it with me to whatever room I needed to clean.
How to accomplish this? Use what you have and don’t buy more. OR create natural homemade products. Here are a few recipes to try:
Homemade All-Purpose Cleaner:
1 part water
1 part vinegar
Pour into spray bottle
Laminate Floor Cleaner:
1 part water
1 part white vinegar
1 part rubbing alcohol
Few drops liquid dish soap
Ajax-type Cleaner:
All-Purpose Cleaner + baking soda
Drain Cleaner:
1/2 c. baking soda
1 c. vinegar
Toilet Bowl Cleaner:
Add 1/2 c. vinegar to toilet. Let stand, brush, and flush
Windex:
1 c. water
2 T. vinegar
2 T. rubbing alcohol
1 1/2 t. cornstarch
Mix together in spray bottle
I personally think that the all-purpose cleaner covers so much – really you can use it for almost anything.
Lessen your cleaning products so that you aren’t forced to make choices around what cleaner to use – have one and only one option.
Confession of the day: I did NOT throw away all of my other cleaners (that I had multiples of), but I am trying to finish all the multiples before I buy more.
