What: Pictures
Why: Digital photography has been such a life-changer. No more wasted pictures. No need to get doubles of EVERY picture. The clutter is not in actual picture form anymore – but now the clutter is on our computers. What do you do with all of the pictures you have downloaded from your camera? Maybe you have a previous occasion that you need a picture from – but where do you begin to find that picture? Below is an idea on how to organize all of your pictures AND be able to locate them quickly and easily.
How:
1. This does involve a purchase: if able, buy cd cases that are colored and also blank cds (you can typically find a sale on these items if you are patient.). If you already have cd cases that are clear, when you print the cd case cover, just print onto colored paper.
2. Start to organize the pictures on your computer by year. While going through your pictures, DELETE the pictures you will never need – like the ones you will never remember what they are for or what they are of anyways.
3. Now that your folders are cleaned out, it is time to start downloading them onto cds. Choose a cd case color for the year you are downloading pictures. Start downloading pictures by year, onto cds.
4. Design a template or document (this can easily be done in Word) for the cd case cover. Type the year in bold and then underneath the year, list the events that are on that cd. You can either order them by timeframe or in alphabetical order.
5. Cut the cd case template to fit the cd case.
6. Find a box or container to store your newly organized picture cds in (keep them in order by year).
Confession of the Day: I really enjoy digital pictures, but it is easy to just let the photo folders pile up on your computer. I had this problem and knew I had to do something because otherwise I would never enjoy these pictures. Once I got them all onto cds (and in order), it has been so easy to look up a certain event. Even my husband is able to grab the box and find the right cd and the picture he needs! It is a little time consuming at first, but once you do it, you will be so thankful you took the time.
I've been pretending my 3 folders (in different places) on my computer didn't bother me. Now that I see the nicely organized (pretty, even!) box of photos, my OCD is just screaming at me to get this down RIGHT NOW! 🙂 I thank you, my computer thanks you!
Ah, that is so the point I got to with my pictures! Those folders just stare you in the face, don't they? Even when you try to ignore them, they still make their way in! Sometimes OCD can be good – gets you on top of the things you've been wanting to do :). Thanks for sharing Cheryl!
