Day 35: Nail Polish
What: Nail Polish
Why: Something so simple, yet nail polish is something we often have too many colors of. Who needs 5 different colors of pink? Really. In reality, how many of us have 5 different colors? Time to clear out the nail polish bag or container and live with less nail polish!
How:
1. Dig down deep into your bathroom drawers and cupboards and find all of the nail polish you own.
2. Set aside the ones you use every year. Honestly, this will probably be only a few.
3. Get rid of the rest! Yes, get rid of it! If you haven’t used it and you think you might, you won’t. If you know someone who would appreciate it, give it to them and say have fun!
4. Put on a fresh coat of one your favs!
Confession of the Day: I used to have 5 or 6 different shades of pink nail polish. I realized how ridiculous considering I could not (well, I should not) wear them all at one time. To the trash they went. Some of them were half used and there was no use giving them to someone else. Even something as simple as nail polish, clutters up our drawers and cupboards. Why do we allow something so simple do such work in our cupboards? Live with LESS!
A friend recently decided to discard her nail polish while moving house and discovered that it is considered a toxic substance. Like paint it shouldn't be thrown out with normal rubbish. Worth looking into alternative ways to dispose of it first. I was really surprised!
I would've never thought of nail polish being a toxic substance. I too am really surprised – thank you for sharing that tidbit of information – going to have to check into that!
Most polishes now are made a bit safer. And since polish never goes bad just throwing it out is really a waist. They make nail polish thinner if it gets a bit dry. I have over 100 bottles. Have I worn them all? Does it really matter? Are they in the way? Nope! I store them in a special tower where I keep all of my things that are similar to it. And since they don't go bad, I have enough for years. I don't buy them hardly ever unless I see a color I really, really like. Will I buy a color again that I liked and used up. Probably not. So once they are used up I'm done with it. And I looked up the prices of the "earth friendly" ones and I'm not paying those prices. I can buy stuff that my family NEEDS for those prices. Just my bit of info. So don't throw away. I have even seen nail polishes at thrift stores. Not sure if there is a way to sanitize polish, but I wear a very good base coat and top cost. Only my colors are cheep because it doesn't matter what is in between, just want is on the top and base. Enjoy!
Thank you for sharing! I appreciate your perspective and your insight! I too, have hesitated throwing away, but some of mine had globs in them, so throwing away was definitely needed! I think as long as they aren't in the way, that is the biggest thing! I am all about cheap too 🙂 Thank you so much for your thoughts and thank you for stopping by!
I love to use old nail polish for crafts. It saves money from buying paint and lets me use up something old. I paint beads or the little vase glass beads that you can get at the dollar store. I make rings and pendants and that saves money on Christmas and everyone gets something. 🙂 i tend to be a hoarder when it comes to crafts and items that can be used for that. Lol. But with the help of this blog, i am trying and so is a friend of mine. Thanks for the help in getting us back on track.
I love the different ideas you have for nail polish Tarra! So fun! I had the same problem hoarding craft items – I eventually got rid of most of them because I couldn't stand them hanging over my head. I hope you find a lot of helpful tips – take them for what they are worth, apply only what applies to you, and I hope you find yourself more organized, less stressed, and having fun in the process :). Thanks for sharing this Tarra!
Thanks! I have begun to feel the same way, but its so hard to dexide what to get rid of. I love messing with so many different types of crafting that i cant ever seem to settle into just one or two things. And some things I use for seasonal, or for things like homecoming mums. But I have felt the urge to purge my crafts. And after doing some of these declutter blog ideas, i feel so great when i am finished with an area. I know the craft area will definitely be the hardest thing i have ever done. Lol.
Hang in there girl – it will be worth it in the end! I too, struggled with what to keep with regards to crafts. I had too many unfinished projects that I didn't care about anymore, so that helped. But it is hard!
