Day 52: Repurposing Plastic Bags
What: Repurposing plastic bags
Why: Reusable grocery bags are the way to go – you can fit so much more inside of them and they are much easier to carry. On the other hand, plastic grocery or store bags can also come in handy. At times it may be wise to actually put your groceries in plastic bags, so that you can repurpose them for garbage bags.
How:
1. It’s easy! Instead of using your reusable bags, at a store have your items put into plastic or paper bags. Instead of spending money on BUYING fancy trash bags, use bags that you can get for FREE! Who doesn’t want “free” these days?
2. Keep an eye on how many plastic bags you bring into your house – do not keep more than you will use. With that said, if you have more than what you need, do not throw them away, but at your major grocery centers, they have a plastic bag recycling bin at the entrance.
Confession of the Day: I grew up Dutch and the Dutch are known for being frugal. Call me frugal on this one, but I have seen my mom use plastic bags as trash bags and I have followed suit. I do not ever plan on buying trash bags because I see no point in buying a bag that I can get free while getting my groceries. Thankfully one of the stores I shop at has large plastic bags that fit in my trash can well and they also offer paper bags. It is in the little things that can make a big difference on helping us all lessen the purchases we need to make and also learn to live with less – even with plastic bags.
Would you switch to plastic grocery bags instead of buying trash bags?
