Day 94: Decorative Pillows
What: Decorative Pillows
Why: Why do we have decorative pillows? Have you ever wondered what the purpose of them is? Do they take up precious sitting space on your couch? When guests sit down, do they end up taking the pillow off the couch and putting it on the floor? What if we did away with decorative pillows? If you are looking to downsize in every area of life – even decorative pillows may need to be taken into consideration.
How:
1. Find all of the places you have decorative pillows
2. Decide:
- What purpose does this pillow serve?
- Is it in the way?
- Does it add that much eye-appeal?
- What if you no longer had that pillow there? Would you miss it?
3. Make sure you have a PURPOSE for each decorative pillow. They can easily add clutter to an already full room. Have a reason.
Confession of the Day: I know, you are probably thinking, “really Kristin?” You are worried about decorative pillows? Yes, I am. I have sat on couches that have had so many pillows, that I wondered what the purpose of the couch was. I felt it was more for displaying pillows than it was for sitting on. I had to move the pillows in order to even sit down. Then when I got up, I felt I had to put the couch back together. I will admit, I do have decorative pillows on our beds. We also have one pillow (that we stole from our bed) that we keep on the couch, as a place to lay down on. Other than that, no more pillows. I donated the ones that were just there for decoration. They served no purpose, but take up valuable sitting space. Living with less means being okay with sacrificing eye-appeal for the ability to allow the piece of furniture to function as it should – like a couch.
What are your thoughts about decorative pillows?
