Don’t Waste Your Life
Healing from cancer has allowed me to take an in-depth look at how I live my life. I’m often found in my own thoughts as I allow the chemo to work through my veins, thinking about how God is using this to alter my life and viewpoints.
When I think about my life here on this earth, I can’t help but think about the fact that we are solely here to display God’s glory and to delight in him with all of our hearts. Easy to type, hard to do. God should be our single passion in life. There shouldn’t be a moment in time that we don’t devote to our Savior. We end up wasting our lives when we replace God with something else in our lives. When we devote our passions to anything but him.
Advertisers do a great job at creating in us a want for something we didn’t want before we saw the advertisement. Just think about that.
Advertisers tell us that what we have is boring, needs to be updated, and what someone else has, will make us happier.
Watch out for the trap. Keep in mind that godliness with contentment is great gain (1 Timothy 6:6). When I look back on my life throughout this cancer journey, it’s been unlike any journey I’ve ever been on. I struggled to see others going about their days when I was stuck in the hospital. Kind of a “oh, woe is me”, I’ll admit, but what God was doing in my life at that moment, was the chiseling work he had set out to do at the beginning of time.
I don’t want to waste my life chasing after other people’s views of the world. I don’t want to waste my life going after things that advertisers say I need, in order to be content. I want God to be woven into every aspect of my life for that is where godliness with contentment is great gain.
