Expecting The Unexpected
There are many unexplainable occurrences in life. Some call those events ironic, coincidences, you name it.
I call them Godcidences.
I was talking with someone at rehab and while looking at me, she said, why not expect for God to do something great?
Huh. Not going to lie, I’ve just assumed my position in life, that I will always and forever have heart issues. It is a part of my daily routine. My daily life. It has become my life. But all I have to do is look across the room and see toys infiltrated into every nook and cranny of our home. A reminder that a miracle lives with us – a child we NEVER imagined having. I never expected the unexpected!
It is difficult in our human limitations to trust that God works for the good and that God IS good. When bad things happen, those two things are called into question within those human limitations. Will we allow our faith to take us higher? Will we allow our faith to take us above what is expected?
Looking back at last year and this year thus far, I can’t help but think that the unexpected happen. I never would have expected it two open heart surgeries. But why not expect the unexpected in my healing too? Why not strive toward the unexpected, instead of just living within the mediocre of what’s expected?
To me, living with a desire for the unexpected is a call to faith. Do I truly believe that God CAN? Do I believe that God WILL? We don’t know what God’s will is and what He will do. But what if we lived with an optimism that goes beyond what is humanly expected?
I know, I know, we have to live in reality too. Trust me, I get that. But I think often times it’s easy to just accept our situations and not think about what God can do in and through us. Guilty as charged. I don’t always quite understand the whys, but what I do know, is that God is going to use this situation for the good and for HIS glory, by doing the unexpected, in whatever way that may be.
Do we expect God to do the unexpected? My limited faith surely doesn’t always live with that great expectation!
What situation in your life do you need to expect the unexpected?
