Forgetting To Declutter: Medicine Cabinet
Today is the last day in the “Forgetting To Declutter” series! My hope is that those areas in your home that you may easily forget about, are now decluttered and organized! I have one more area that may be easy to neglect. You may not necessary “forget” about it because you may frequent this area often, but it’s easy to not take the TIME to declutter: the MEDICINE CABINET.
Do you ever have the symptom of a specific illness and know exactly what medication would help, but can’t find it? You KNOW you have some, unless someone else in the family used it all up and failed to tell you it was gone. Whatever the case may be, you realize that you can’t find anything in your medicine cabinet because it is a ferocious mess. I mean ferocious! You pull out every bottle possible and realize it is everything but. That is when I say it is time to declutter!
1. Take everything OUT! Maybe you have other meds lying all over the house (which shouldn’t be the case if there are children or pets in the home), but wherever they all are, set them all out in one spot.
2. Check expiration dates on every single medication. If it is expired, check the bottle or go to the FDA’s website to learn how to dispose of the medication properly.
3. Decide if you actually USE the medication. If you do not, again, dispose of properly. Set a time frame – if you haven’t used it since that specific time frame, get rid of it.
4. Find a plastic container to put all of the medications in.
5.. Make a list of everything you have so that when a certain symptom arises, you know whether or not you have the medication you want.
6. Label the tops of each of the bottles. If you set all of your meds in a container in the bathroom cabinet, you will have to pull each one out to see exactly what it is. Bypass this step by writing in permanent marker on the top of each bottle so that you know what specific medication it is.
Now when that specific symptom gets you down, you know whether or not you have the medication to kick that ole bug in the rear. Plus, you know exactly what you have, how much of it, and it is DECLUTTERED!
What area of your home do you forget to declutter?
