He Reads Truth Bible + Giveaway
This post is sponsored by He Reads Truth L3 Blogger Team.
Have you ever started reading the Bible and wondered, “How does this all tie back into the greater story of salvation?” I find I have a greater appreciation for how God has woven his love and grace throughout the Bible, when I can understand the context and the story behind the words too.
Sadly enough though, how often do our Bibles collect dust and are rarely opened? We allow the excuses of busyness and “seasons of life” to get in the way of our desire to open up the Bible. Guilty as charged, right here. Though over the past while, I have craved that study time, and allowing the Word of God to soak into my daily thoughts. And how rich of a time it has been! I had always been using a devotional, but it didn’t have me opening up the actual Bible. Trust me, I still have moments of “I’m too busy right now” or “I have to do something ‘better’ to do,” when in reality, I’m just making up excuses and I’m the one losing out.
Well, just in time for Father’s Day, there is a new Bible that has recently come out called the He Reads Truth Bible, from Lifeway Christian Resources. So what sets this Bible apart from all of the others? Here are some of the key features of the He Reads Truth Bible that struck me. It has…
- 66 hand-lettered key verses
- 17 full-color timelines
- 125 full-color charts and illustrations
- 21 full-color maps
- Reading plans for each book of the Bible
- Bible reading plans
- Book introductions and outlines
- Wide margins to take notes
- And more…
As I was paging through this Bible, I really appreciated how at the beginning of each book, there is a key verse on a single page to use as a guide for memorization, along with the genre it is from (which is hard to remember at times!), where the book fits into the greater story, a little background on the book, a reading plan, and the purpose OF the book. So often I can read a book of the Bible and wonder, where does this fit into the rest of the Bible, like I said earlier.
This Bible strongly encourages and invites men to become a part of the He Reads Truth community of “Men in the Word of God every day.” It is so easy to think that listening to a sermon, podcast, or Christian music is enough. And absolutely those are important things to encourage growth in the Christian life. But it is all the more important to read God’s truth ourselves, so that he can speak to us directly through his Word. Yes, God can speak through others, but indeed, he can also speak to us through the very words of the Bible. Sitting down and soaking in the words of God, is one of the best ways to get to know the character of God. And what’s nice about this Bible too, is that as you hear God speaking through his Word to you, you can journal those thoughts right in the margins of the Bible.
So why is it called the He Reads Truth Bible? Is it just for men? No. Yes, there is a She Reads Truth Bible as well, but it’s what you do beyond the reading, that sets it apart. It does say “He Reads Truth” along the binding of the Bible though. But here is what the He Reads Truth Bible community is about:
“He Reads Truth is a worldwide community of men who read God’s Word together every day. Founded in 2015, He Reads Truth invites men to engage Scripture through daily reading plans and devotionals written by a vibrant community of contributors. The He Reads Truth Bible offers the community’s favorite Bible engagement and study tools, all in one place.”
One question I had when I received this Bible, was what Christian Standard Bible translation was? I am most familiar with the NIV, NLT, and ESV translations. In fact, I used to work at a Christian bookstore, so I am fairly familiar with the wide variety of translations and types of Bibles that are out there. So when I first read about this Bible, I admit I had not heard of the Christian Standard Bible translation. Here is where the CSB originated from:
“Developed by 100 scholars from 17 denominations, the Christian Standard Bible faithfully and accurately captures the Bible’s original meaning without compromising readability. The ultimate purpose of the Christian Standard Bible is to draw readers into a deeper, more meaningful relationship with God. By translating ancient Scripture texts into the clearest possible modern English, the CSB allows readers to experience the Bible at its fullest.” If you would like to learn more about the Christian Standard Bible translation, you can check out their Frequently Asked Questions.
If you are looking for a thorough, readable, and reliable Bible that will bring you back to the basics and help the reader understand the often missed details of the greater story, this Bible is excellent! I would highly recommend it and I fully admit, I too have enjoyed reading through some of the descriptions of the books of the Bible.
