Home Tour – Kitchen
There were many reasons why Dan called our realtor immediately that one Friday morning, when this particular house went up on the amarket
So far, I have taken you on a tour of our living room and dining room. This week, I wanted to show you what our kitchen looks like. Something that really caught our eye when looking through this home via pictures on the internet was the kitchen. We saw how wide open and updated it was and knew it was something we wouldn’t have to put tons of money into. Even though I have never re-done a kitchen, I can only imagine the cost!
The open concept of the kitchen was exactly what we were looking for! I am sure at one point, this house looked drastically different; especially the kitchen. On the outside of the house there is a different-textured siding, which makes us think that there was a completely different set up in here at one point.
Our fridge is the typical “can’t see the door” fridge. It’s covered with pictures from friends and family, both near and far, along with artwork and magnetic numbers/shapes. New artwork is hung weekly, but I love it! It’s what makes this house a home! The door leads to our back deck.
It is wonderful being able to cook supper with SPACE to move, where I am not running into Mazy. I can easily pull up a chair next to me, while she helps me make a meal or baked good. Also, that little lip on the edge of the counter is wonderful for her to play with slime on if I’m busy in the kitchen! And…do you see that dishwasher? This is the first home we’ve had that has a dishwasher! In our 11 years of marriage, we never had one and I am going to sheepishly say, how did we ever live without one? I am not doing dishes 3x a day anymore and it’s WONDERFUL! Having a clear counter is AMAZING. Who knew?
The wonderful cupboards to the left is where we store most of our food. It’s a great pantry area! You can see too, that as you walk through our kitchen, you have a view into a large portion of our house. Through the archway is our living room and then toy/front room. Then to the left is our bathroom and two bedrooms on the main floor. It’s the perfect set up!
Here’s an unedited version of our pantry. Meaning I opened up the cupboards and this is what it looked like. Top left section has our water bottles/coffee, then cereal, then canned goods. Below that are my cleaning supplies, hand vac, and recycle bin. Top right are chips/snacks, then crackers/more snacks, then the case of the randoms. Bottom right is another case of the randoms, then pasta, disposables, then rags and and picnic blanket.
On our counter, we always have our weather reader, phone chargers, and slime. We just had a complete mishap with the slime the other day, so I need to make more. Mazy is really good about playing with it on her own and not making a huge mess. Well apparently it was a bit sticky and it was EVERYWHERE. I could hear her yell “Mommy, it’s sticky…” and I peeked over and no joke, it was everywhere! All I could do was laugh!
Yes, we are old school! We still have a landline! Kids probably don’t even know what this is! When we moved, we debated having a landline and even though it’s another phone to pay for, I am glad we have it. It is great to have when I don’t want to give out my cell phone number to the world! Plus, when I was recovering from surgery, I got multiple spam phone calls for reasons I don’t know, but I could see who was calling and just ignored it! With a cell phone it just says the number and place. With a landline, I like to screen my calls a bit more. So, even though I can’t text with it, I sure enjoy using it still! Do you still have a landline? If so, why? If not, why? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
That’s the end of our kitchen tour! Stay tuned for the next home tour!
Such a nice house! And yes, we still have a landline. Mostly because we are old and have always had one, (Ha!) but I also like it for the same reason you do…don’t have to broadcast my cell number to everyone. Thanks for the tour!

Hi Kristin! Love seeing the pics of the house! It looks great and so happy y’all love it so much! I wanted to tell you that the people we bought the house from did the remodel. We were friends with them when we rented the house across the street on the other corner so we saw the house before the remodel! I will try to explain as a best I can! When you came in the back door there was a small mud room and then another door into the kitchen. The kitchen was about half the size and there was a big wall between the kitchen and dining room with just a small door. They updated the bathroom at the same time. The master was actually the other bedroom on the main floor and the current master was two small rooms and you entered one of them through that front closet! The front porch and sunroom were not originally on the house! And I think at one point the house was red! Anyway, hope you are feeling well and enjoy Spring!!
Lisa, THANK YOU for letting me know all of these tidbits because honestly, Dan and I have sat in this house talking about what it used to look like, numerous times! Do you have pictures of what it used to look like? We knew this setup wasn’t what it used to be because the rooms are far too large for homes back then! We were thinking the master bedroom now was two rooms b/c there are two vents in that room. Oh how I would have loved to have seen it back then! That is CRAZY to think the front porch and sunroom were not on the house! Again, how I’d LOVE to see what it used to look like! Being 100 years old and seeing the character it has, I know numerous families have walked these floors, which makes us honored to do so as well! Just LOVING it here!!!!! You guys should stop by sometime :).
