Homemade Ant Killer
I don’t know about you, but every spring, the ants welcome themselves in and overstay their welcome! I have always used a store-bought ant killer, but I had run out of the old. I could’ve ran to the store, but I quickly jumped online to see if there was a homemade concoction that I could make with what I had in our home as an alternative.
I should’ve known, there were more than plenty options to choose from!
Want to know what the simple homemade concoction I chose to make, is made out of? Borax, sugar, and water. Three ingredients. Botta bing. Botta boom.
I was a bit skeptical, but after mixing:
- 3/4 c. sugar
- 3/4 T. borax
- Enough water to make a syrup
…this is what I found a few hours later:
No joke, folks. I will say, this is NOT an instant ant killer. What this recipe does is lure the ants in with the sugar, then as they “eat” the sugar, they are also ingesting Borax, which they bring back to THE home, spread the poison, and they all, well, RIP.
I would suggest putting the mixture in a very shallow dish. It did start to get a “glaze” over it after a few days, so you may have to stir it up. I decided to get rid of it and see what happened, and even after 2 days, I’ve only found an ant or two, not a whole colony (or so it seemed at the time).
I’m not sure if you store Borax in your home, but I find there to be many uses for it. And now you can use it to help rid your home of the invading ants. And a little sugar…I mean, who doesn’t like that?
If you give this a whirl, let me know how it works in your home! I’d love to hear.
