How To Deal with Leftovers
A fabulous meal enjoyed.
Whether it be a holiday, a birthday, or an average day.
The family is satisfied and it’s time to clean up.
You look at what’s left and wonder how in the world you are ever going to get rid of all of the leftovers. Was it worth the effort make all of that food? The last thing you want is to see it go to waste. So what is the best way to deal with all of those leftovers?
Here are a few options:
1. Give away the extras to your neighbors or friends.
2. Store in single serving size containers for an easy lunch.
3.Make soup! Soups can be made using almost any ingredients. Also, using bones and vegetables, make a homemade stock.
4. If unusable, throw the food in the compost or garden, such as fruit, vegetables, eggshells, etc.
5. Store correctly – is it best to freeze or refrigerate the item? How soon will you use it?
6. Invite friends or family over for supper to help you eat ’em up!
My husband and I tend to live off of leftovers for the week! I can make one meal and it will typically last us for 3 or 4 meals because it is just the two of us. I thankfully am married to someone who appreciates leftovers. He often says that as long as he doesn’t have to make it, he will eat it. He is fully capable of cooking, but it is something I enjoy, so it is something I volunteer for. Many meals make a 9×13 or feeds a family of 6, so often I will split the recipe in half (into two pans), bake one, and freeze the other. That way we have a meal already prepared and just needs to be thawed and cooked. Makes life much easier when our nights are filled with activity after activity!
