I am sure we have all seen them.
Those designer dividers from your favorite office supply store. You hem and haw about whether or not you should spend the money to buy dividers. Dividers that serve, well only, to divide. Is it worth spending money on this simple task?
I have been one of those who has gone back and forth on whether to spend our money on something such as this. I know, there may be some of you who are thinking “get a grip – spend the money!” My thought is, if there is a cheaper way to do it, I will do it. Any money is hard-earned (typically) and I want to spend it as wisely as I can. I feel we are to be stewards of every dollar we are given – not just a dollar here and there.
So even when it comes to dividers, if there is a way I can improvise, I will give it the good ole DIY try.
After walking through Target, I saw some really cute dividers on clearance. I didn’t even pick up the pack because I realized I could EASILY make them myself! I am a
former scrapbooker, but still enjoy making
greeting cards. Therefore, I have a lot of scrapbooking paper leftover from scrapbooking, but also for making cards. I found one of my favorite paper packs where the paper is double sided and decided to make my own dividers.
How To Make Your Own Dividers
Choose your favorite scrapbooking paper pack (preferably double-sided paper)
Take a divider that you already have and trace it onto the paper. I made tabbed dividers, so I also traced the tab onto the paper as well. In other words, don’t match edge to edge; match tab to edge. Then cut out.
Take your first divider that you just cut out and line it up on the next piece of paper. Draw another tab and cut.
Repeat this process until you have enough dividers to satisfy.
Here are my new dividers! For tabs, I used Smead’s Erasable SuperTab File Folder Labels. This way I can change my categories anytime I want to.
How about that for a 15 minute project? Yes, it really only took me 15 minutes. Finding ways to make the most of what you have is the best way to save money, use up what you have, and do a little DIY project.
