Learning to Bundle Up!
to, my friends! We have decided that Minnesota-cold is colder than Michigan-cold.
Why? A Minnesotan cold is dryer – we were used to some moisture from Lake
Michigan. Our skin is SO dry! I know that sounds so “girlish” but really, our
bodies are having to adjust to this weather! Last night we decided to our first
“night” walk (we took a LOT of those back home) and it was COLD! We both were
wearing our rabbit bomber hats and were bundled up, but our thighs were numb by
the time we were halfway around the block. We decided that a 28 degree night is
just colder in Minnesota J.
blessing and answer to prayer! It took us a day or two to get past all of the
chaos in our house in trying to find where something is, figure out our way around this area, and make
this place our home, but it already feels like it is. We are running into a few road blocks with getting our license and what not changed over – it was rather frustrating, but oh well. We have to study for a written exam we have to take – we thought it’d be like 10 questions, but it’s like the driver’s test you have to take when you are 16 (from what we are gathering). It is literally a BOOK we have to study from too! Kind of crazy. But, we will be AWESOME Minnesotan drivers once we study! We are also learning our way around here by trial and error, which is rather funny at times! Sometimes we think it would just be WAY easier if we had a GPS, but this is making us learn the road system VERY well b/c it takes us much longer to get somewhere :). Friday night we played Ticket to Ride with Steve and Ann and last night
Dan and I continued our Skip-Bo tourney with Dan smokin’ me – it felt good to
continue to do things that are “normal” and things that make a home – like playing
TTR and Skip-Bo (I know, we are weird)!
touch
thus began life on our own here. That afternoon Dan went to one of the churches
for a Bourne party (a bunch of guys watched all 4 Bourne movies) while I was
able to spend some time finding places for our stuff. It was good for Dan to
meet a few more people, get out of the house, and allowed me to just fix up the
kitchen and I suppose the other rooms too. I LOVE to organize, so I was in my
ELEMENT! We still found some things we want to get rid of or just don’t need
anymore, so we have about 4 boxes to donate! (Sorry to those who helped us move
– unnecessary “stuff” was moved, but didn’t know it til we got here). We
realized we shouldn’t keep the stuff we “might” use someday – it just takes up
space and clutters – just get rid of it! So we are.
convert us to being Gopher fans, have no fear! Yesterday Michigan basketball
was actually on our tv (vs. Indiana). We knew two guys from our youth group who
enjoyed watching sports, so we texted them and had a little impromptu get together
– unfortunately Michigan lost L.
What a BLESSING! When moving to another state, we couldn’t really take much
food. Our cupboards are now full and we have gift cards to buy the perishable
items we haven’t bought yet. We can’t even begin to say how much that shower
meant to us! They also had a welcoming potluck with all the churches along with
the shower (after church), which gave us a chance to meet more people. These congregations are truly our “family.” What a
gift it is to be coming here. We often think if he wasn’t working in a church,
it would be so hard to meet people. We are just humbled by everyone’s
generosity and we truly believe God has placed these congregations in our lives
for many reasons. We are so blessed!
details that come along with moving. Like changing our address at a bazillion
different places, buying the things we forgot about (like a dish drying rack –
we had pitched ours and never bought a new one), and just getting to know more people.
Tonight is the first open youth group night we will be at, which we are really
excited about. Though it will take us a long time to get to know each of the
kids, we are already LOVING it! There are just so many confirmations that God
has given us, that this is EXACTLY where He wants us. We know that there will
be struggles, but God has richly blessed us with making this move much easier
than we could’ve ever imagined.
Prayers have truly been answered! We know that the transition will take a
little while (it just takes awhile to get used to a different area), but by
taking each day at a time, it makes the adjustment 10x easier! Plus, we have
people on speed dial b/c we have WAY too many questions sometimes :).
Minnesota looks like!
