My Wonderful Weekend
What a great weekend it has been! Dan left early Friday morning for squirrel camp. Yes, you read that correctly. Dan and some guys from church head up to the Fennville area and camp for the weekend, hunting squirrels. You may think that is a rather odd animal to hunt for (I know some of you may “hunt” for them with your car and intentionally run them over :)), but it honestly tastes like chicken! We’ve used it in soups and it tastes just fine! So with Dan being gone, I decided to jump on the opportunity to head home.
I met my mom at my grandma’s house and we went out to lunch together. It was so good to just be back where I grew up! I know I don’t live that far from home, but it is still hard to find the time to get up there and make it worth while. We went to Wolfie’s (a really good panini and soup place). We then headed to what I call new Goodwill store, right next door. I wanted to learn to crochet again, so we went back to my grandma’s house and hung out there for awhile. She re-taught me how to crochet and I would have to say I think I definitely have the hang of it – not going to say it’s perfect, but I definitely know what I’m doing now! It was so much fun! There is something about yarn and needles – I love to knit too! Anything I can do with my hands and any craft, I love! It was so good to see my grandma again too!
Then I headed home and my mom and I played the best game ever – Ticket to Ride :). Still not sick of it! At night we headed to my sister’s house to scrapbook! We are all a tad behind in our scrapbooks, so we spent the night talking and scrapbooking. Oh what fun we have together!
One of the main reasons I wanted to come home too was to go to downtown Zeeland. I kept hearing about all the cool stores in downtown Zeeland, so I wanted to see what everyone was talking about! Oh my goodness, I totally know now what they mean! I’ve been wanting to go to the store Not So Shabby. Shnikees – that is a craftmaker’s haven! I took paper and a pen along so that I could write down ideas that I saw! I realized some of them I have made myself already, but some I DEFINITELY want to try! I could go there weekly! Some so simple, yet so not so much, but oh so exciting! We also went to Out of the Box, which is a store with all games – like board games, puzzles, etc. I LOVE puzzles and I LOVE games – I could’ve bought so much in there! Instead I bought Christmas presents for my nieces! We went to a craft expo thingy at the community center and it was awesome to see all of the “new ideas” people have out there! We headed out to lunch and then went to Hobby Lobby since our creative juices were flowing. Boy, those type of stores are dangerous :). I had a lot of self-control, which was a good thing – our checkbook will thank me :). I sometimes have a hard time buying something if I know I can find a coupon later and save some moolah. So, if no coupon, no buy :). Then we went to a thrift store next door, with creative juices still flowing, but then I think we ran dry. So we went home.
Mom and I played some games, I crocheted, and we topped off the night by going to Russ’ for supper (to get the soup and salad bar of course). It was such a wonderful weekend! I know you may think it’s wierd that I list all of the things we did this weekend, but I list them all because they are things I’ve been wanting to do so badly! There is just something about going to your hometown and doing what you used to do! Being able to spend time with my family meant even more! I am a family-girl; always have been. I am blessed to have such a loving and wonderful family, that I want to make sure I take advantage of all the opportunities that I have to get up there.
Now I am wrapping up a wonderful weekend by watching the Spartans beat Wisconsin, writing up my grocery list (yeah, I’m working way ahead!), and chillin’. I am excited to see Dan again tomorrow though! What a blessed weekend it has been and I praise God for my family!
