NEW MOVIE: Ordinary Angels
Maybe you’ve heard radio commercials about this movie or have heard the rumor mill building, but there is an incredible film coming out that is based on a remarkable true story, called ORDINARY ANGELS. It centers on Sharon (Hilary Swank), a fierce but struggling hairdresser in small-town Kentucky who discovers a renewed sense of purpose when she meets Ed (Alan Ritchson), a widower working hard to make ends meet for his two daughters. With his youngest daughter waiting for a liver transplant, Sharon sets her mind to helping the family and will move mountains to do it. What unfolds is the inspiring tale of faith, everyday miracles, and ordinary angels.
I had the privilege of viewing this film and within the first few minutes, I was weeping. You will need multiple tissues for this movie, as you process this as a true story, but are also inspired by the life that Sharon lived. She worked through her own struggles in life as an alcoholic, but living beyond ourselves and seeing the needs of others, often helps us in our own struggles, to see that our choices do effect others. I was challenged to remember that when we struggle, we need to be honest and open up about our needs. It’s easy to be self-reliant and just fight ourselves, proving that “we can do it”, but what we don’t realize is that by not allowing others to help, we are squashing what God might be doing through them. Now granted Ed didn’t welcome Sharon’s help well, but in the end, he couldn’t help but say, “Thank you”.
I strongly encourage you to watch this movie that comes out February 23 and let it challenge you in your own life as well!
