NEW MOVIE REVIEW: Average Joe
While watching a high school, college, or NFL football game, we often see players kneeling on one knee, praying. To many, this may not seem like a huge deal, until a coach does. The new movie, “Average Joe” is a true story about standing up for faith and freedom in a world that wants to keep God out. We can easily take for granted the freedoms we have, but this movie puts into perspective, what it takes to stand up for our faith in God.
Here’s a bit about the movie:
High school football coach Joe Kennedy had no other choice but to fight. A childhood in foster care followed by 20 years in the Marine Corps was nothing compared to his biggest battle: his commitment to stand for God publicly by taking a knee in prayer after each game. When he was fired, Joe and his wife Denise knew this battle for religious freedom, freedom of speech, and the rights of all Americans was one they would have to fight—no matter the cost. From the director and producers of God’s Not Dead and the producers of The Blind comes AVERAGE JOE, in theaters beginning October 11. Check out the trailer below:
After watching this movie, it made me think about what lengths I would go to, to stand up for my faith? What am I willing to sacrifice to stand up for the truth? What am I willing to give up? Joe Kennedy risked it all and this movie left me questioning whether I’m willing to do the same. It is incredibly inspiring! It is rated PG-13, so just be aware of that. Joe’s upbringing was very difficult, but is a testament to what he went through to be who he is today. One quote that really stuck with me was a reference to church and standing up for faith. Joe was talking to someone who was struggling going to church because he had a bad experience. Joe compared this to a bad experience at a restaurant. And he said, “Don’t let one bad meal keep you from being fed.” I think we often let one bad experience keep us from moving forward. Joe didn’t let anything stop him and may this movie be an encouragement to us to do the same.
