Simple Uses For Everyday Items: Baking Soda
I have always thought that baking soda was only good for baking and if I was feeling really ambitious, using it as a natural cleaner. Little did I know how many ways baking soda can be used! Baking soda is a rather cheap item to buy – especially when found on sale! I hope you gain a better and broader understanding of how you can use a simple item such as BAKING SODA, in your home.
1. Have caked on food in your pots and pans? Boil water in the pan (about 1/4 full) and add 5 tablespoons of baking soda. Turn off the heat and let it set. Food should come right off!
2. If you have a bee sting, put 1 teaspoon baking soda with a few drops of cold water, let dry, and the stinging pain should go away!
3. Is your shower curtain clouded full of soap scum? Use 1/2 cup of baking soda in the wash cycle and then 1/2 cup of vinegar in the rinse cycle and tada!
4. Underarm stains on t-shirts: Use 4 tablespoons of baking soda and 1/4 cup of warm water to make a paste. Rub in and let dry if the stains are extremely bad.
5. If you have kids, you probably have run into crayon magically appearing on your walls – if you damp a cloth with a little baking soda, the crayon will wash away!
6. Is your brush or comb full of gunk? If you mix 3 cups of warm water, 2 teaspoons of baking soda, let it soak for about 30 minutes, and rinse, the gunk should be gone!
7. Do you kitchen towels and/or washcloths have that musty smell? Soak them overnight in 2 tablespoons baking soda and a few drops of dish soap in warm water. Wash as normal and they should smell as good as new.
8. Drain clogged because of hair? Sprinkle 1 cup of baking soda and pour 1 cup of hot vinegar down the drain and let it set. After about 15-30 minutes, pour 1 small saucepan of boiling water down the drain and you will find your water is free at last!
9. Do your baked beans cause you to get gas? Put a little baking soda in them while they are cooking and there should be no gas!
10. Looking for an easy way to freshen the fridge? Put a box of baking soda in the back!
