Organizing Our Year with Wayfair
This is a sponsored post brought to you by Wayfair. The opinions are completely my own based on my experience.
With the start of the new year, I have the itch to ORGANIZE! Ever since moving into our house 2 years ago, our closet has been a work in progress. It is an area of our home that I cringe every time a pile of clothes falls over, and I have to re-stack, so everything can fit accordingly. We moved from a home with a walk-in closet, to a small bedroom closet with no doors, which means I have felt the need to keep it organized and decluttered. And from the day we moved in, I’ve struggled to do just so. I have wanted to re-create this space, but now the time has finally come!
Here is what our closet looked like before we decluttered and reorganized with Wayfair:
Stacks of clothes constantly tipping over and our shoes in disarray. I’m telling you, it’s not a pretty sight! The chaos stressed out this organized-crazed girl every. single. day.
Shoes not even IN the closet, but stored outside of it…
But thanks to Wayfair, we were finally able to tackle this project and organize our closet for good! We started off by taking everything out and filling in all of the holes with mud, while also repainting the interior walls. I was the one who did the mudding, and I can’t say it looks great, but it’s a closet, right? The start of painting…clearly it was high-time the closet get repainted:
Here is the newly repainted closet! During this time, we also decided to re-do the hardwood floors. What started as a project to replace the carpet in our bedroom, ended up being a whole closet renovation AND re-doing of ALL of our hardwood floors in our house. To say that this is a big project, is an understatement. Many told us though, it’s a LOT of work, but it will be worth it in the end.
Now came the time to choose a closet organizer. Clearly what had we, didn’t work, so we had to find another system. And this is why I have such an appreciation for Wayfair! You can find inexpensive items that work perfect for the space you have. I look around our home, and so many items are from Wayfair. I have been hesitant to buy home décor and house items from an online store (when I can’t see it in person), but I have never had to return something, if that says anything.
Because our space is small and simple, I wanted to have a simple closet organizer. Wayfair has a wide variety of closet and bedroom organizers of all shapes, colors, and sides, but in the end, I chose the Suite Symphony Closet System by ClosetMaid. It has 5 shelves and 3 closet rods, but can be adjusted to the width and length of your closet. It comes in various colors and you can also add drawers, shelves, and shoe organizers (sold separately), if it fits your needs. It was perfect for our closet, being that it is a small, yet basic space, so that I could customize it to my liking. And as you can see, it fit PERFECTLY!
Now the fun began of ORGANIZING it! We had to store all of our clothes upstairs, so that we could sand, stain, and finish the flooring. It was a bit chaotic, but I knew the organizing would come eventually. I know so many closet organizers show perfectly hanging, all the same type of shirt displayed, making it look like an organizers dream, but in reality, this is what our closet looks like. The real. The reality. Everything has a place and everything in it’s place.
I would eventually like to get the Cube Lattice Square Fabric Polyester Bin by Winston Porter, but they haven’t arrived quite yet. Wayfair has very inexpensive decorative baskets! These particular baskets come in various sizes and colors, and can be used to store clothes, miscellaneous closet items, and even toys. They are wrapped in polyester fabric, but also fold flat, while not in use. Can’t wait to give them a try!
The shoe area was the most exciting for me! Call me strange, but when I can see shoes nicely lined up, it just makes my day! I am able to even hang my sweatshirts, belts, and even stack my clothes in a way that I don’t have to worry about the pile tipping over.
The winters always give us an itch to do a house project. Mainly because we don’t want to spend our summers indoors, when it’s so nice outside, but I have to say, this was a project well worth it! The floors? As much work as they were, we like how they turned out. And our closet? I can finally choose something to wear without being stressed out by just looking at our closet.
Do you have areas of your home you hope to organize this year? Even if it’s just a closet?
