Hard to believe that school is just around the corner! For some, this may already be a fleeting thought since your kids are in school already! This is a series I did a year ago, but thought it would still apply, as the stress around school always happens it seems, no matter what year it is!
Each school year means another school supply list to abide by. Because those lists change from year to year, it is hard to fully prepare for your children going back to school until you get the official list!
Let’s be honest though, we all remember heading to the store when we were young, to pick out a new box of markers, new notebooks, and sometimes even a new backpack. As stressful the process may be or as indecisive as your child may be, remember that these moments, they may remember forever. How do you want them to remember the back to school shopping experience?
I remember my mom would take each of us back to school shopping, where we could pick out one new outfit. We had a budget that we could spend (which I HIGHLY recommend) and it allowed us to get the items we needed, while choosing also what we wanted, but teaching us to spend wisely as a budget was only so much. It was perfect. We also picked out our supplies and came home with a whole bag of goodies!
So whatever that list may look like, remember it’s the time spent together, and allowing your child to make decisions and “own” the process.
Biggest thing TODAY:
Get all of the school supplies needed for each child
- Check to see if you have been sent the classroom supply list
- Decide what you need to buy and what you already have
- Make a list of what you need to buy
- Take your child out and buy all of the supplies needed
- Put all supplies in your child’s backpack, so that it’s ready for the first day of school
Think of it! You now have ALL of the supplies needed for the first day of school AND the backpacks are ready to go! Now the only thing you need to think about is their lunch!
NOTE: There are always so many back to school sales! Sometimes you want to wait for the right week, but really, each store has their own specials. Don’t spend day after day, driving to the next special because think of the money you are spending in gas – is it really worth the savings then?
