That One Simple Thing They Said
Think back to a time when someone said something to you, and you haven’t felt the same since.
Okay, maybe it wasn’t that life-changing, but can you think of a time when someone said something positive to you, and it just gave you motivation and confidence for the rest of the day?
The other day, someone said something to me in passing and I guarantee you this person probably has no clue that what they said meant so much to me, but it did. I heard them speak and because it was in passing, I didn’t think to clue in 100%. Until I really chose to hear what this person said.
How many times do we do that? We start to move on, possibly missing one of the most important things someone has to say, simply because we aren’t staying attentive or think it’s not going to be worth something? I know that sounds so crude, but think about how may times we do that in a day! When we don’t truly listen to what someone has to say?
And in this moment, I almost missed out on the blessing that someone was giving me. A blessing that gave me that extra confidence and pep in my step I needed for the rest of the day!
It really started to make me think…
- How often do I offer give life-giving encouragement to someone?
- How often do I speak words of affirmation and confidence into a fellow friend?
- How often do I miss opportunities to spread the love of God by choosing to not use the simplest of words?
Think back to that time when someone gave you the warm fuzzies via their words. Now ask yourself, when was the last time you offered the same to another? I’m not asking you to lie or make up things, but in a world full of negative attitudes and thought-patterns, choose to make someone’s day by giving them life-giving words of hope, love, and compassion.
You never know how it might just change the course of their day!
