This Is Often What We Dream Of
I confess.
THIS. This moment in time. This having to “shelter-in-place.” This being “forced” to be at home gig. This clearing of the calendar – a blank slate.
This is often what we dream of. And now we are living in it.
When I was taking a walk, I realized the monumental moment this really is. This is something we will be talking about for years to come. Because it’ll be in the textbooks, I’m sure. Wait, do they even use textbooks yet? Anyways, I was walking with freedom of not worrying about where and what I had to do next. Isn’t this what vacation is supposed to be like?
And now for many of us, we are living in it. 99.9% of the time we live at a lightening speed pace. And now we have that .1% of time to not. What are we going to do with it?
We fill up our schedules, yet wonder where the time goes?
We try to do everything that everyone else is doing, yet wonder why we aren’t content with who we are?
We try to do it all, yet wonder why we lay in bed exhausted, night after night?
We don’t take time to be still, yet wonder why our stress levels are through the roof?
We don’t spend time with God as we should, then wonder why he can feel so distant?
We have to slow down. And sometimes it takes being forced to do so, to realize what we are missing out on. We have to seize the moment. We have to make the most of every opportunity. We can choose to look at this time of life and let the negativity of it, the fear, and the uncertainty, drive us nutty. But instead of looking at what we CAN’T do, what if we looked at this time of life, this incredibly short season, with eyes of what we CAN do?
Spend time together. Work on that project you’ve been wanting to finish. Make a puzzle. Tackle that stack of books you’ve been wanting to read. Eat around the table as a family. Color. Clean that drawer out. Stare at your calendar and remind yourself that the day is YOURS to dictate. Take time to just be. And don’t forget to be with our Savior. Soak in his presence. His character. His promises. And maybe just sit and honestly do nothing. Be outside and take in a breath of fresh air. Just imagine?
The time is yours. How are you going to spend it?
I also want to say THANK YOU to those who are going in, every day to still work, ensuring we are healthy, can put food on our tables, and ensure our houses and cars are running properly. Not everyone has the opportunity to just be home. Let’s not let it pass by and have regrets later. Because this is often what we dream of.
