The U-Haul is ready to go! Today we just have to hook up the car trailer with the Intrepid on it, to the U-Haul, then pack the Intrepid and Explorer and we will be ready to rock n’ roll.
Hard to believe this time has come! Dan and I have talked often about how we just kept praying and praying for God to show us where He wanted us to go – now we know AND we are moving there in two days! Sometimes it seems like everything has just moved so fast, but it’s a good fast. Never thought I wouuld be packing my life into a U-Haul, but we are ready for the adventure. The emotions are there, but we know our goodbyes are not forevers. It’ll be different, but different is okay.
We rented a 20 foot U-Haul, thinking we would fit all of our stuff EASILY because we honestly didn’t have to make that many trips to Dan’s parent’s house from our old house. We just used a trailer and our Explorer to move everything. We didn’t realize how much room 4 appliances take up! WOW. We could’ve gotten away with a bigger truck, but oh well! Some things we will have to leave back, but it’s not like we are never coming back to Michigan, so we can just get the rest of our stuff when we visit. No biggie. We knew having to take a washer, dryer, refrigerator, stove, a sectional, and the rest of our furniture, that it would take up a lot of space, but we had no idea THAT much space. We have honestly downsized a lot (or so we thought), but today was a big reality check as to how much room, stuff can take up! As we were packing, I already see things that I don’t use or don’t want, so I think when we get settled in, I will be doing another “simplifying” day! Purging is something I LOVE to do – well, it looks like I will get another opportunity to do it!
We also learned that living in a house vs. an apartment, really requires MANY more things, such as a snow blower, lawn mower, and just stuff to keep a house running. For some reason it didn’t seem like we had all this “stuff” when we first moved, but when you put it all in one centralized location, like a U-Haul, you realize how much ya have.
We are SO THANKFUL we decided to leave on Thursday because the snow has REALLY been coming down! We had such WONDERFUL people helping us pack the truck! We got so far! We are hoping that our last day isn’t filled with ALL packing, and I don’t think it will be. We just have to pack the vehicles. We are so blessed to have such wonderful friends and helping hands to assist in this huge project called moving your LIFE!
Boxes and odds/ends waiting to be loaded
Dan had the stellar idea of backing up the U-Haul right to the edge of the garage – unfortunately, all of those helping us move were over 6’0″ tall, so Dan put this red/white tape on the house to remind everyone of the low clearance
Our friends had a refrigerator they didn’t need anymore, so they generously let us have it! Like I said earlier, we didn’t realize how much room appliances take up in a moving truck!
Moving the big haus- the piano!
As you can see, this truck is already pretty full and all we have in there so far is our furniture!
Creatively getting the matresses up the stairs!
Pack, pack, packin’ away! No, the stuff in the garage is not all of ours – Dan’s parents graciously let us live with them for 5 months! So blessed!
The snow continued to fall, but everyone continued to work hard!
Our friend Jeremy has experience with packing a moving truck and he was SUCH A HUGE HELP! We were blessed to have some experience helping us!
As we near Thursday, the realities of moving are setting in. Saying goodbye to some people Tuesday night was hard only because I know for some of them, I don’t know when I will see them again. I have a love/hate relationship with technology, but it’s during this time that I appreciate it. Like Skype, email, and facebook – ways to keep in touch with people. We have strong desires and hopes that we can continue these friendships and through technology, it makes that easier.
Today brings on more packing, but it shall soon be done! Whew!
