Update on Mazy
Well, since Mazy’s surgery on Tuesday, things maybe haven’t gone like we thought they would.
We were hoping for that “different kid” that the doctor talked about, but she was struggling. Tuesday, the day of the surgery, she took a long morning nap and napped well in the afternoon, so we were thinking “hey, things are improving!” She only woke up once that night too.
Wednesday rolled around and something just didn’t seem right. She was a little more fussy than normal, but I just figured she was still healing. Well, by nighttime she was a different kid in not a good way. She wasn’t eating much, her stomach clearly bothered her, she screamed inconsolably when we put the drops in her ears and just kept her shoulder up against her ear, had bad diarrhea, and to top it off, she couldn’t sleep. Once she finally fell asleep at night, about an hour later she woke up just screaming. I was worried. I thought about taking her to the ER, but Dan suggested maybe giving her some ibuprofen first and sure enough, she fell fast asleep in my arms (not complaining here!)
Thursday morning I right away called the ENT doctor and she said that some kids are more sensitive to the drops than some, so to stop giving them to her for the time being. Mazy doesn’t have any drainage, so she should be just fine. If she gets drainage, we will just start them up again. So we are praying she doesn’t get any drainage/infection anytime soon because those side effects were rough.
She only woke up once last night, at 10:30, which is normal for her. Since about oh day 1, she typically wakes up at that time. Usually she will put herself back to sleep, but not always. Doctor said that she is just “one of those kids” that will probably always wake up then. Why I don’t know, but apparently that is fairly normal. I guess I wake up too at night, so I shouldn’t be surprised! Otherwise she slept GREAT.
And let me end by saying Mazy is doing SO much better! She has been incredibly happy, is napping much better, and is getting her appetite back. I think it’ll take a bit for her body to recover from what we did to it on Wednesday, but she truly is doing so great. She isn’t picking at her ears anymore and now all she wants to do is “walk”. She pronounces the word “walk” very clearly and so now she just wants to “walk” everywhere, even though she can’t quite do it on her own yet. But let me tell you, she is VERY close! She sometimes lets go of what she is hanging onto and wants to do it, but doesn’t quite dare. It is just adorable. So until she spreads her wings and does it on her own, we will continue to “walk” her wherever she wants to go.
Thank you all for the prayers for little Miss Mazy and hopefully this is just the beginning of our girl feeling MUCH better!
