Wednesday – Family Life
What have the Sterks been up to?
Dan and I have been so blessed to have such wonderful support and love through all that has gone on. Last night we went out for dinner with two friends, mentors, and brother/sister in Christ. We are so blessed to have people to look up to – not only because they are older than us ;). We just feel there is so much wisdom to gain from those who have gone before us. To hear their stories, what God has done in their life, and how God is using them, is just so encouraging. To share in each other’s joys and hardships, is beautiful.
Today Dan and I headed to Grand Mere State Park and cross-country skied. It was a gorgeous day to be out – the sun even poked through the clouds, which is rare in the winter! Dan packed lunch and off we went. I only biffed it once, thankfully. We went about a week and a half ago and it was a different story – I think I biffed it 3 times (1. My ski pole got stuck on a log. 2. I tipped over going up a hill. 3. I face planted down a hill). I am more used to downhill skiing, where my ankles are secured – when I cross my skis cross-country skiing, I am toast. Yup, that is what happened today. Dan and I are still trying to do our Tri-fecta (Tuesday’s Time Together). Last Tuesday we headed up to Holland and walked around downtown. It’s just good to have time set aside for each other!
A few weeks ago, we were blessed to see our new niece Scarlett, get baptized. It was the day after we got back from Belize, but we really wanted to be there. I have to admit that I got teary eyed a few times, just thinking about our two little ones, but as the pastor was walking around with little Scarlett, I was reminded of the beauty of life. Scarlett is just so beautiful – what a precious child of God. We will always miss our little babies, but seeing a little one like Scarlett, reminds us how blessed we are to be an aunt and uncle.
We continue to wait in eagerness and excitement as to where God is going to call us. We know HE knows, so are just trying to rely on Him. God continues to give us direction, for which we are thankful!
During this waiting period in our life, I have enjoyed making cards, crocheting, and making mittens out of old sweaters. I have been on a frenzy with all of those things, but have loved EVERY moment of it! Again, I am thankful for this time in our life. Like a pastor that we met this past weekend said, “God doesn’t waste anything.” We so feel that way. God has not “wasted” this time in our life!
Oh, and Michigan has been getting the snow that we have been waiting for! We were gone this weekend and we came home to lots of fluffy snow! AND…it just keeps on comin’! It is a winter wonderland out there!
Well…I think that is all folks!
