What Has God Created You To Do?

It’s almost springtime and our high school seniors are in the thick of planning for what to do after graduation. My heart goes out to them because when you think about the rest of your LIFE, how after only 18 years, is one to decide? We’ve all been there, haven’t we? I’m curious how many of us are living the life we thought we’d live when we were 18?
That’s a HARD NO for me!
Often we can get caught up in what we are supposed to do for the rest of our lives, while getting caught up in what everyone else is doing around us. In the hustle and bustle of this life. In the paycheck. But let me ask, how many of us are doing what GOD created us to do?
Did you know that God created you do something unique? That God MADE YOU for a very specific purpose and made YOU different from everyone else because He wants YOU here at this specific time and place in His Kingdom?
Well, it’s true!
The words “You just be you” or “Be whatever you want to be” or even “You have the whole world ahead of you” rings through the ears of teenagers and even adults now. But really, those phrases are rather unbiblical. Yes, we have the choice to be who we want to be, but as Christians, our purpose is a bit different: Who has GOD created us to be?
What did God make you to do?
These are hard questions because sometimes God doesn’t always give us clear answers right away. It can take years to unwrap all of the gifts God has given us, so how is this of any help to an 18 year old who doesn’t have a clue where God is leading them? Or to the person who knows they are in a job they don’t like and aren’t using the gifts and talents God has given them?
Let me ask, have you ever brought to God, what you love to do? I remember my husband telling me that a teacher once told him, “Find something you love to do and then find someone crazy enough to pay you to do it.” He dreamed of becoming a raft guide and sure enough, he found someone crazy enough to pay him to do it. Then he wanted to become a youth pastor. And now for over 20 years, he’s found church’s willing to pay him to do it.
To the 18 year old who is wondering where to go next. The adult who feels stuck. To the person is wondering if this is all life has to offer. If money wasn’t an issue, what do you feel God is leading you to do? What do you love to talk about? What circulates in your mind? What gets you excited? Ask God to show you what you love to do. The thing is, He might not tell you in a hot second. Again, this may take time as you spend time with HIM. Don’t expect an answer from Someone you never spend time with. You can’t get an answer if you don’t pick up the phone. Take time to intimately seek who God is and seek what He has created you to do, and you might be surprised what you hear Him speaking to you. When we seek Him, we seek His will. And when we seek His will, we seek our calling.
God created you different from everyone else for a reason. If you’ve switched jobs, it doesn’t mean you were wrong in the first place. It’s because God is making the calling clearer and moving you through His Kingdom in His intended ways. God made you for a PURPOSE.
Now go out and have fun learning why, as you seek Him, and Him alone.
