You Can’t Speak What You Don’t Believe
I have often sat back in wonder of how God has worked in my life. Have you ever done the same?
I remember laying in bed one night wondering how God could use someone with a mended heart and even more so, a girl who felt like she lost everything through having to say goodbye to basketball when I was a teenager, which you can read more about this in my book, A Heartbeat Of Grace.
But one thing I failed to realize was that my heart was in the wrong place for too many years. I didn’t believe God could use me in any other way than basketball. I didn’t believe I had any other purpose, other than basketball. If that’s why I thought, then that’s what I believed.
The truth is though, I couldn’t think what my heart didn’t believe. My heart didn’t believe at that time that God could use me, after basketball was taken away. My selfish and one way track of mind led me to believe that basketball was what made me worth something.
Then it was motherhood. I felt I couldn’t be the person God wanted me to be because I wasn’t a mom for many years. And then I became one, thanks to the miracle of Mazy Grace! But that still wasn’t fully satisfying because I was searching for my worth in something earthly. I was believing in something that wasn’t eternal.
What I have come to realize is that we can say we believe in God. We can say that we want to keep Him at the center of our lives. But what REALLY is in our hearts? What REALLY are our desires? It’s our HEARTS that have to believe what is good and true. For out of the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks (Luke 6:45). If I don’t genuinely believe that God has a good good plan for me, even when things don’t go my way, then how can I speak about it in a truthful manner? I can’t speak truth if MY heart doesn’t believe it.
Just think about that. If we want to be people of wisdom, godliness, and filled with righteousness, well, we need to believe in our hearts, who God truly is. We have to believe that He is a good, good God. We have to believe that He has given us each a story to tell and that WE HAVE PURPOSE. Each and every one of us!
Believe in your heart, with faith, that God’s got a grand purpose for you. Believe in truth.
And SEEK truth. It will be eternally worth it!
