Minnesota’s Winter Wonderland!
Living in Minnesota is quite an adventure! Much like in Michigan, you never know what the weather is going to be like! We knew this week was supposed to bring yet another snow storm – well, the weatherman was actually right. We are supposed to get another 5-8 inches of snow while being under a Winter Storm Warning. You would think I took the picture above a month ago. But no, that is a picture I just took off our front deck. Never a dull moment here…
I will say Dan and I are excited for spring – we are PUMPED about fishing here! Though, it may be a few weeks because all of the lakes are frozen yet (yes, the thousands of lakes…). Many things are closed in the winter here (rightfully so) so we are excited to see what May brings as things start to open back up (such as parks, attractions, etc.).
Some things we love about Minnesota:
1. The people – when there is a need, the people are willing to help. Over the past few years, we have realized that it is okay to ask for help and be willing to accept help.
2. The countryside of Minnesota continues to prove itself beautiful. I often find myself driving on the highways (they are all highways around here…but not highways like they are in Michigan) and losing track of where I am. Thankfully there is a town in between Willmar and Prinsburg on the highway, that if I can see it in the rearview mirror heading home, I know I better start looking for our road. Because it is all open field, it is easy to get “lost” in the scenery.
3. People are chill. We continue to feel that it is a slower pace of life out here. It is hard to explain, but people are okay just spending time with family and at home. I have always been sort of a homebody, so we fit right in!
4. It is nice living in a town where everything is within walking distance. Today I forgot that we didn’t have a second car. I was ready to grab the keys and realized they weren’t there. I had a momentary brain fart and remembered we only have one. So off to the post office I went, walking – it was a little blustery, but I loved being able to do that!
5. This is a HUGE state! When we drove up to Alexandria, it was about an hour and a half from Prinsburg (I think) and when you look at a map, you realize ya didn’t go as far as ya think. Therefore, we are excited to continue exploring this state – when the snow melts that is!
6. Dan and I like to take walks at night – always have. Funny thing is, we can take a walk around the whole town :). Gotta love it!
7. As hard as it is to adjust to a new state and where things are, we are continually feeling more and more comfortable here. It does feel like home. Praising God for that.
