Babies Are A Growin’

The babies are GROWING!

Though we weren’t as eager as we were on Wednesday to hear the news, when it hit about 12:30, I started to get a little anxious wondering what the results were of Brenda’s blood test today.

Well, it was shortly after that, that Brenda called. We were looking at rubbermaid bins at Lowe’s when we got the call. All I had to hear was Dan say the word “awesome” and I knew that meant they were still growing. Then I heard the word “123” and that is when I did the Tiger Wood’s arm move (ya know, that typical one foot forward pump of the fist). Then I proceeded to pump my fists in the air, say a pray, and just pace – all in the bin aisle.

Then after Dan hung up, the typical Sterk high-five rolled in.

Truly something to celebrate! We had to quick run to Wal-Mart, but that was the quickest Wal-Mart run I’ve ever done (and I’m a speed shopper) so that we could head straight to the Vriezemas. I skipped up the door and gave Brenda HUGE hug as we were laughing once again. Laughing with excitement, relief, and just utter joy.

On Wednesday, Brenda’s number was 49. They say if that number doubles, that’s a good sign. As long as that number goes up, that means the hormones are increasing, which means a healthy pregnancy. So for Brenda’s number to be 123, that means it more than doubled and she has a healthy pregnancy thus far! PRAISE GOD! God is continuing to sustain that (those) life inside of her!

On September 18 (just so happens to be Dan’s birthday), she has her first ultrasound. We may or may not be able to hear the heart(s) beat – they may be too young. But if we can’t hear their hearts, we may be able to see how many are in there. No promises. Dan said there couldn’t be a better present than to find out how many kids he is having. And to hear two hearts beating.

So two big hurdles down. One to go (the ultrasound). After that ultrasound, Brenda will be seen by a normal OB doctor because she/we will have “graduated” from the program at the fertility clinic. I know this is SO wierd, but in a way it saddens me that we won’t be seeing them all at the clinic anymore. You really build quite the bond with them after spending so much time with them. Of course it’s a place you WANT to graduate from, but they have invested so much into our life and they have been such a joy to work with. One of the nurses who we have become really close to, told us to keep in touch with her because she said this is such a special occasion and situation. We just keep chalking that one up to God!

Brenda is feeling good! She is not as tired in the mornings as she used to be (but can get quite tired at night), but she does not feel sick or anything (yet). Oh how I LOVE to rub her stomach and say hi to our little ones! Everytime we are there I can’t wait and Brenda is so willing to let us. We, again, are so blessed to have such a godly woman to be doing this process with. She is giving up so much of herself for us – for us to have our own children.

So we wait to see what happens! We continue to pray that God will sustain and take care of those lives inside of her. We know He will – we just pray He keeps them here on earth with us.

Today was a huge mile-marker to pass – to know those babies are GROWING.
