Trying To Get It All Done

I was once heard it said that if you constantly can’t get it all done, well, then maybe you are trying to do more than what has been intended for you to do.

That has really made me take a step back and think – I hope it does the same for you. Are you constantly thinking that there is not enough time in a day? Do you often think that there is not enough time to do all that God has intended for you to do?

Let me share a hardcore truth with you: God has given you enough time in each day, to fulfill his purposes.

God doesn’t expect you to do MORE than what we have time to do. 24 hours in a day, folks. Yet I often find myself wondering, how am I going to get it all done? How am I going to find time to write another book? How am I going to have enough time to get everything done on my to-do list? How am I going to have enough…(you fill in the blank).

To be quite frank, I find myself asking that question when it comes time to reading my Bible. It is without question, every time I sit down to do my devotions, Mazy gets up or I get interrupted. Boy the devil knows how to weasel his way in! But oh, I sure have enough time to check Facebook and Instagram. I have no problem doing that. But what about reading his Word? Do I spend more time on my phone that with my nose in my Bible? In this season of life, I wish it was more worn.

Often when we can’t find enough time to do everything, maybe we are doing too much. Maybe we’ve lost focus on what God is wanting us to do. Maybe we have lost sight of what our purpose on this earth is. I know. There are busy seasons of life. Just ask any student. Just ask any mama. Just ask any working mama who is trying to do both. Life is busy. Ask any retired 70 year old and they would often say the same. We all have NO problem filling up our time, do we?

But let me ask you this: is God going to ask you how busy you were when you get to heaven? Nope! But is he going to ask you what you did for him? You bet. Busy doesn’t mean better. But living a life for him and doing all things for his glory, that is what matters. I can do laundry for his glory. You can mow the lawn, for his glory. When done with a greater purpose in mind, it’s a bit easier to weed out what is unnecessary.

I wouldn’t say I have a phone addiction, but I will say I too easily pick it up. When Jesus needed to be rejuvenated, refreshed, and rest, he didn’t pick up his phone. He didn’t check the latest posts from Facebook or Instagram. He went to his Father. The very source of all our comfort, joy, energy, and purpose. I stink at this. I mean I’d say I have a good relationship with my Father, but I’m so quick to find other avenues sometimes before just praying.

So when I’m trying to do it all, I find myself trying to do MORE. When in reality, I need to take a step back and ASK God to show me what he has for me in that day. And even that moment. When I have a moment of “okay, what should I do next…” what if I asked God? Not that I feel he dictates to that degree, but sometimes we miss opportunities to serve and live out our purposes because we don’t ask. And instead, I busy myself doing things that really don’t matter and am trying to do it all. And I miss the point.

What about you? Are you trying to do it all and get it all done? Do you feel everything you do is what you should be doing? I’m not saying you have to LIKE everything you do because God can have grand purposes in those moments too. But take time to ask God, “what would you like me to do?” I truly believe he will whisper or shout things to you – we just have to be ready and willing to listen.
