10 DAYS OF GRATITUDE – Day 4
Thanksgiving is a time for reflection.
There is a sign that hangs in our dining room that says, “Gratitude turns what we have into enough.”
Note that it doesn’t say getting “this” item will turn what we have into enough. It’s not proposing that getting MORE will make us grateful. It’s not getting what we don’t have. It’s what we ALREADY have. It’s taking a look at all of the things God has blessed us with, that God has given us to be a steward over, and considering it “enough”.
When you look at your life and what’s in your life, what do you value most? With this question of 3 objects, I’m not talking about people. I’m talking about physical, material things. What are you grateful for? Think of it this way, if your house was on fire, what 3 things would you grab?
For me, I would grab…
Bible – I know, it’s such a cliche answer! But my NIV Study Bible I’ve had since I was in 8th grade and there are SO many notes, highlights, pieces of paper in it, that I treasure. It’s a bit bulky so I don’t take it on mission trips, but it comes with me every Sunday. It’s a different translation than what we use in our church, but I just can’t part with it. The Bible cover has stains, is worn, the Bible I’ve had to tape together in a few spots, but it’s one of my most valued possessions.
Computer – For far too long, I was operating with 3 computers. Each had it’s own function and purpose because each couldn’t do all that I needed it to do on its own. Well, this year I FINALLY purchased a Mac that I can do EVERYTHING on. So why would I grab my computer? Writing/typing is something that brings me so much joy. It is an extension of my heart, where I write my books, organizing ideas, and oh so much more. I store our family’s photos on here (along with on thumb drives, just in case). I can text if need be. Listen to music to fill my soul. Read a devotional. And even read a book. I am so grateful for this technology!
Internet – (it’s a hotspot) I am so grateful for the way the internet has allowed me to communicate with others. I’m not against a phone call, but the internet allows me to keep in touch with others both here in the U.S. and internationally. I can share what God has put on my heart through blogging. I can make picture books of our family and Mazy to keep. And if our house would burn, I could always reprint them. And as stated before, it allows me to blog. I have met some INCREDIBLE people through blogging and I can’t imagine not having them in my life, thanks to the internet!
How about you? What are 3 objects you’d take with you and why? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
