High School Retreat
This past weekend, Dan and I had the privilege of attending a high school retreat as counselors! The Christian school in town, every year, has a high school retreat. When we first heard about it, we thought that would be a great event to attend, being new and not knowing everyone yet. It was the best choice and the perfect way to spend our weekend (though our eyes are a little bloodshot currently from the lack of sleep!)
It was just another way God said to us “welcome to the community” as we got to know such WONDERFUL high school students who we haven’t met before, while building on the relationships we already have established. It was just another glimpse and another way God reminded us as to why He brought us out here to Minnesota. It was an amazing weekend of seeing God work in mighty, mighty ways, and watching His children (us included) surrender their lives to Him.
I was a counselor with one other woman, to these 8 BEAUTIFUL girls! Love them!
What’s a retreat without games, right? The “mingle” game got the students up close and personal with one another!
We stayed at the Lake Geneva Christian Center near Alexandria, MN. it was a GORGEOUS campus and we had such BEAUTIFUL weather!
The annual football game was a hit! The school does not have a football team, so the kids will take every chance they can get!
They guys cooling off in the lake (while having some fun)…I said “no thanks” as the water was a tad chilly!
One of the games the counselors had to do was help our husbands “get ready in the morning.” I had to put my arms through Dan’s and help him along…
Here I am helping Dan shave. Let me tell you, shaving with the side edge of the shaver doesn’t work too well! I had put so much shaving cream on Dan’s face that I couldn’t even tell which end I was using! Granted the razor cover was on (have no fear), but boy I struggled :)!

Oh the donut…trying to shove a powdered donut in his face and then trying to put his sunglasses on. It was rough! Apparently I kept poking Dan in the eye with the ear piece – oops! It was SO fun and Dan was SUCH a great sport!
What’s a retreat without pranking, right? The last morning we woke up to couches in front of our doors…
Lord willing, we hope to be a part of this weekend again next year! The worship and speaker were absolutely amazing. It was humbling to see God working in ways we never expected in the kids’ lives. When you allow God to work (instead of trying to control it yourself), great things happen. All too often we try to control our own lives and end up losing control. When you allow God to lead, change happens. That is what we saw this weekend – a fire for God. A fire to live for Him. Now to live that out in our everyday lives!
