A Dinner Table Conversation

I love “family” meals.

Paging through magazines, looking through the latest sales ad, listening to your friends talk about the latest and greatest “thing” they just bought. Ever look in that magazine or scroll through that blog and wish your home looked like it was straight out of House Beautiful or Country Living? I have my days. But more…
Does anyone remember GAK? That ooey gooey slime that made a rather disturbing sound when pushed forcefully into a container? I remember making it with my classmates in 3rd grade and who knew slime would still be a hit? I figured if I could make it in 3rd grade, I could still attempt to make…
Outside order contributes to inner calm Gretchen Rubin This summer I’ve been slowly going through areas of our home that need some attention. We live in a 100-year-old house and I’m thinking they didn’t need closets because our house has one coat closet and one bedroom closet (that would be our daughter’s). Our closet has…
I didn’t understand the need to filter our drinking water, until I had my bone marrow transplant. We have city water…what possibly could be wrong? After learning that any toxins that entered my body, could be harmful to me and add to the risk of infection, I started to realize HOW many things in our…

We are content on a school teacher's salary. I have learned that a lamp or table picked up at the thrift store and redone with things I have on hand is far more satisfying than something picked out from a furniture catalog. Also, I wouldn't trade the time we spend together doing these little projects for anything else I can think of. Good for you, sweet Kristin; and thank you for the encouragement.
Mary, you are SO right – it is WAY more satisfying to DIY than buy! One of the biggest my husband and I have tackled is redoing the complete inside of our fishing boat. It was a marriage tester I must say, but when we were finished, it is the thing we are most proud of. I love your perspective Mary and thank you for yet again, sharing your words of wisdom :)!
