A Letter From My Dad

First of all, thank you to all those who came to the visitation yesterday! To hear people talk about how much they admired my dad, his wisdom, godliness, and so much more, made me so proud and humbled to call him “dad”. He is someone who truly left a legacy – may this be a challenge for us all!
Today we will lay my dad to rest in his temporary, earthly home. But we know his soul is already living FREE and one day, our bodies will rise again, perfect and free (learn more in 1 Corinthians 15:35-58).
I wanted to share a letter our dad wrote to the grandkids. But as you read it, it is wisdom we can all take to heart, no matter where we are in life. Thank you dad for sharing your wisdom not only spoken, but in letter too. Something we will always treasure:
I want all my grandchildren to know that we all live in the presence of the Almighty God. That you would all come to know Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord and live your lives in peace. Don’t listen so much to what the world and society says but listen to the Scriptures on how we shall live. Read and study the Bible. It is the TRUTH! Be in much prayer to God. Be kind and forgive others. Always live in humbleness, gratitude, and peace to God. Always work hard. Give it your best shot. Don’t settle for mediocrity. Trust God to show you the way. We have the ability to make choices. Ask God to help you make good choices which lead to eternal life. Poor choices can and will make your life miserable. Be wise and careful. That’s when trusting God comes in. Dad wants all his grandchildren to know that he cared and loved them more than they will ever know.
This encompasses the life of a Christian! I have read through this several times and each time, I glean more wisdom and knowledge through all the truth he spoke. May we all come to know Jesus Christ as our Savior, knowing that in the end, this whole process of laying someone to rest in an earthly sense, is only temporary. Can’t wait to see you again soon, Dad!
I love you. Cherish you. And thank you for all the wisdom you have shared with me!
Our sympathy to you and your family. Our hope is built on nothing less than Jesus blood and righteousness! Praying for you all. Love you.
